“It’s not that easy.” Ty tells Jasper, even though he wishes it can be.

Jasper looks hurt by the comment, and it makes Ty want to reach out and hug him, but he knows that would be out of line, and isn’t helping his case.

“Why not?”

“It’s just not.” Ty snaps before walking back to Sarah and leading her away.

It makes Ty feel guilty walking away like that, as if he is abandoning someone in need. The way Jasper is trying so hard should be flattering, but it is only frusterating given Ty's circumstances. He doesn't know why it is eating away at him in the way it is, but he can't lie to himself - even if he can lie to everyone else. Fact of the matter is, they can’t be friends, Ty knows that. He knew that from the moment Jasper walked into his English class. He is aware of himself and the way he feels; and the way he is reacting to Jasper is not okay. Not to mention Jaspers insistence on knowing what is going on behind the scenes. Ty can’t afford to have anyone trying to figure out where he goes or what he does in his spare time. Everything will fall to pieces, and so he can’t let Jasper in, even if for some reason he wants too.

Jasper curses under his breath as he watches Ty walk away, why does he have to be so stubborn? Jasper knows that he probably shouldn’t be so intent on befriending and understanding Ty, but he can’t help himself. He makes his way slowly back to the table where Brad and Alexis are. Brad quickly introduces him to Stan and Tamara, before he continues to engage himself in conversation with Tamara.

“Hey man,” Stan reaches across the table to shake Jaspers hand with a smile.

When Stan isn’t looking, Jasper and Brooke exchange a look, and Jasper winks at her before Alexis starts leaning on him and talking about ‘some bitch in biology class’.

Sarah and Ty sit at one of the smaller tables in the cafeteria. “What did the new kid want?”

“To hang out.”

Sarah scoffs, “clearly he has no idea who you are.”

Ty hates the way she says that, like Jasper isn’t worthy of being around him. Ty is just another guy, people don't have to worship the ground he walks on, and no one is any lesser than him. Jasper being a waste of time is the furtherest thing from true (as far as Ty knows), and Sarah implying so makes him want to stand up and walk away, but he stays put because there isn’t anywhere else to go.

Sarah less than subtly slides her seat around so that she is as close to Ty as she can get. "So," sh places one of her hands on his arm as she leans in, “got your eyes on any special girls?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know.”

“I’d love to know.”

Ty feels a little uncomfortable. He doesn’t like Sarah, he has never had an interest in her, He hardly speaks to her, but she has always been a very forward girl. She wants a lot of things, and most of the time, she gets them. However, she will not be getting Ty. As pretty as she could have been, Sarah's make-up is slightly too think, and her clothes are always small but never overly flattering. She is not Ty’s type, to put it nicely. He found most thing about her a turn off. Plenty of other guys might have loved the chance to crack onto her, but not Ty.

He tries to steer away from he topic as much as possible for the next ten minutes before he is saved by the first bell. Without saying anything to Sarah he get’s up and heads to the exit on the other side of the room. Leaving her alone without a glimer of guilt, completely unlike the way he left Jasper. Thinking of this, he can’t help but notice the way his friends are behaving when he walks past. Jasper has his arm around Alexis and the two are absorbed in conversation with Brooke and Stan about something. To the side, Brad and Tamara are laughing, and her head falls onto his shoulder as she tries to catch her breath. Ty wonders if this it the way it is going to be from now on. Loneliness sweeps over him as he thinks of being forgotten and left behind. Will he go from the top of the school to the nobody that goes unnoticed everyday? He doesn’t want that to be his life. Everything was going so perfectly, why must it all change now?
