I woke to my little sister, who's named Sophie, climbing into my bed. "Did you have a nightmare again?," I asked, even though I already new the answer. "Y-yes," she replied, looking down and holding Ellie tightly. Ellie was a red, worn down stuffed Elephant. It was Sophie's favorite toy she had.
"I guess you can sleep here then" I said with a sigh. Sophie got under the covers and laid down. "Soph, you can't do this every night... You need to sleep in your own bed sometimes" I said as I stood up. Sophie looked at me with big eyes, "I know... It's just... " She started to say, but I cut her off. "I know, I know. There's a "monster"" I said with air quotes. As many times as I told her that there was no monster, she still gets scared.
I got up, going to check her room for the umpteenth time. I walked down the hallway trying to avoiding the boards that creak. Trying is the key word. 'At Least I know the loud ones,' I thought.
I walked into her room, checking under the bed and in the closet. Of course there was nothing there except some clothes and toys. I started to walk out, but something caught my attention from the corner of my eye. It was something sparkly, that hadn't been there when I walked in. I walked over to it cautiously. I couldn't see what it was, for the darkness swallowed all but the shimmer from the moonlight. As I bent down to pick it up the floor creaked behind me.
