Phase One

After Taylor left us to go to the last ten minutes of her art class, I brought Alex to my favorite place in the entire building, the library. It wasn't too far from the office, actually, it was almost across from it. I went up the stairs and opened the door then moved to the side, motioning for Alex to step inside.

"Thank you," he says stepping inside.

"My pleasure," I respond. "This is my favorite place in the entire high school. If you can't find me anywhere, I'll probably be here," I explain admiring the room. He looks at me with an eyebrow raised.

"This is your favorite place? The library?" he asks chuckling a bit.

"Hey! So what if I like books better than human interactions? Sue me," I say back at him over dramatically. He laughs, whether at my comment or me I'm not so sure.

"Oh come on, there has to be some reason you like this place. Cause it's not doing much for me at the moment," he says looking around.

"First of all how dare you," I yell mock-offended. "And second I guess I like the quiet. It feels peaceful almost. I come in here to do homework, read, or just listen to music. It's just calming," I explain defensively.

What I said was true, but there are bigger, more important reasons why I love this place so much. But I doubt he'll want to listen to me talk about my past with this lovely library.

"Ah, I see. Is that all?" he adds with a suspicious smirk. "I still don't see the deep connection you have with this room being explained with 'I like peace and quiet.' Come on, spill. I wanna know what happened here, and why you keep looking at that corner of the room," he says pointing at the area in the back of the library.

Huh, maybe I was wrong. He does want to listen to me talk about my past with this lovely library. Well, only because my job as a guide is to give him a good impression of the school. What better way to do that than with some good memories.

"Since you asked so nicely, I'll tell you," I say smirking at him. He cheers and then sits on the nearest chair looking at me like a child during storytime in preschool. God, he's a dork. He's perfect for Taylor. I think smiling to myself and then continue.

"Taylor and I used to come here every day after school and stay here for a while. We'd help each other with homework, talk, laugh, and do whatever. Most of the time there aren't a lot of people in here, sometimes none at all. If there are, they're mostly introverts or bookworms like me. This is where I went to hide from bullies after I came out. This is actually where I came out to Taylor, I had to put a hand over her mouth to keep her from shouting. Thank god there wasn't anyone else in here at the time," I say remembering me having to grab her from behind and cover her mouth while she tried to scream "I KNEW IT!" Those were the good old days.

"Wow, so you do have a connection with this place. Why didn't you just tell me that first?" he asks.

"Oh yeah, because talking about your life history with someone you just met in a library is totally normal," I reply. "Anyway, you caught me on a good day. Normally talking about my past is at the bottom of my to-do list."

I walk to the door and open it, step to the side as I had done before, and motion Alex to leave. He does and as we go down the stairs he continues our previous conversation.

"I see, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop asking questions. I already told you about my past, it's your turn. I'm not quite sure what you mean though, isn't that what happens normally when you try to get to know people? Learn about their past?" he asks with a laugh.

"Well, I'll have you know I'm about the farthest thing there is from normal," I explain. "And you can ask all the questions you want, there isn't much to tell. I'm a gay boy that somehow manages to be introverted and also be hilarious, loud, and sarcastic at the same time. No boyfriend drama because there are almost no other gay guys in the school and Taylor one of my two main friends. I have other friends but none compare to the goddess that is Taylor Sacheli," I joke snickering at the thought of Taylor in a greek goddess robe.

"You two are really close huh?" he asks.

"Very, but don't worry, I'll leave you two alone on your dates. Some of your dates I should say. You see I'm a certified third wheel," I say smirking at him. His cheeks instantly turn a shade of red, and he awkwardly trips over on himself, almost falling in the middle of the hallway.

"W-what? No, me and her? That's just. No, we just met. I didn't say-" he stutters.

"Oh cut the crap, you like her!" I say pointing at him. "Don't be embarrassed. So do most guys, hell, I would too if it weren't for my raging homosexuality. But she turns most of them down because a lot of them are douchebags, which gives you an advantage. She is currently single too, just FYI. I know you were wondering."

"I wasn't-" he stops himself because we both know that isn't true. "So, you think I have a shot?"

"Of course you have a shot! Apart from being good-looking, your also really nice. Anyway, I noticed you two share a moment before she left. She walked away blushing, blushing. From what I've seen Taylor doesn't blush when it comes to guys. I think you have more than a chance my friend." I say, patting him on the back.

"But I don't know the first thing about dating. My only relationship was the summer before freshman year, and that didn't go so well. We met up a few times and then I realized she had another boyfriend and was using me to make him jealous. It worked and she left me after the other guy apologized and they got back together," he says. "So you see I don't have much luck with relationships or girls."

"Damn, I'm suddenly really glad that I'm gay," I say earning me a chuckle from Alex. I smile.

"You are probably the sassiest person I have ever met, and we met literally less than an hour ago. Can you turn anything into a sarcastic joke or comment?" he asks laughing.

"Yes I can, it's truly a gift," I say in the most philosophical voice I can pull off. "But don't worry, no one knows Taylor better than I do, I'll get you two together before you can say, 'Charlie is the best ever.'"

Alex laughs again. "Thank you, Charlie. You are the best ever."

"I am, aren't I? You're lucky to have me." I say smiling over-dramatically happy at him.

"Shut up," he says jokingly punching my shoulder playfully.

We continue walking through the halls, with me pointing out rooms and explaining various things about where to go if "you need this," or "which teacher does what and who to avoid." Technically I should've brought him to class with me, but come on. Who would pass up skipping class and not getting in trouble for it? Anyway, it was fun spending time with him, and I'm glad to see that he likes Taylor as I had suspected.

Phase one of "get Alex and Taylor together" had been a success! I should probably think of a better name than that. If all goes according to plan, they should be in each other's arms by the end of the week. I think I'm beginning to be a pretty good match-maker. Now to begin phase two.
