Chapter 30

We sit in silence, waiting for each other to speak. Finally, I say,"Tris, you almost died. Why didn't you let them kill me?" She thinks for a few seconds, but finally says,"My parents used to say,'Sacrifice is the greatest love you can give.' And when I thought about how much I loved you, I knew I couldn't let you die."
I hold her close to my chest, and whisper in her ear,"But I couldn't live if I lost you." I kiss her forehead, and she lies her head in my chest. "I couldn't live if I lost you either."
After sitting in silence for a few hours, the train finally nears the new Abnegation. My head throbs constantly from my cut, but I just ignore it. Once we get to Abnegation I'll get stitches anyways.
"Tris, honey, we're going to jump okay? I can carry you, but the impact might hurt." Her face is still pale, but her voice is becoming stronger. "Okay." I pick her up, using my right arm to carry her, and using my left arm to keep pressure on her chest. "Ready?" Tris nods. "Yep." Quickly, I kiss her forehead, and jump off the train.
When we land, I stumble, but manage to stay on my feet. "Tris, are you okay?" I check her pulse: it's weak and rapid. Her breathing has become shallow. "Tris, you're going to be okay, just try to keep breathing." Sprinting, I try to find Abnegation.
After fifteen minutes, we arrive, and I race to the elevator. Tris's skin is clammy, so while in the elevator, I wrap my arms around her to keep her warm.
"Tris, they're going to help you. Just hang in there."
The elevator opens, and I run to find a doctor. When I find one, I plead,"Please, help her. She got shot in the chest, and I don't know if she'll make it." I choke on the last words. He yells something, and two minutes later, four doctors bring a stretcher. While lying her on it, I say,"I love you. Be brave, Tris," and kiss her forehead.
After that, they take me into a different room to get my head fixed. The doctor stitches up my head, but I don't think about the pain. All I can think about is Tris. Will she survive? She has to, and she's strong enough. I know she can.
