She was different than the rest. She wasn't your typical girly girl. She didn't go to the bathrooms at break to fix her makeup or touch it up. She didn't stare at her reflection in every passing window or mirror. She didn't come into school wearing a dress hugging her body in all the right places, or sitting just below her arse cheeks. She just doesn't care what anyone thinks about her. She's different.
I should probably introduce myself. I'm Jay Alvarrez. I'm captain of the football team. Well I was. I started missing some practises and coach had a word with me and told me I wasn't captain material if I couldn't be depended on. It's not always easy. Yes you hear 'Oh he's the captain' which means he's got the supportive family and the big house and drives a Lamborghini. That's not me. Quite the opposite actually.
I live in a dead estate about 15 minutes from school. It's full of druggies and whores. People who deal with guns and drugs and women who make there money by lowering there standards way to far. It's not a child friendly neighbourhood but I didn't choose it. I've lived here all my life. All I know of hearing is gun shots and screams, and waking up in the morning to the news of yet another death outside my house. Unfortunately it's become natural now.
I don't have my own car. Yes I've my license but for now my only form of transport to school is either my feet or my trusty steed or as everyone else knows it, my bike. No one knows my situation. No one knows where I live and how bad it actually is. When my mates drop me home I get them to drop me down at grove street where all them neat houses are. You know, all them massive mansions that the rich folk live in. Yes that's where all the guys think I live. The whole school thinks I'm the rich fucker who's father bought me my way to the top of the football team. Little do they know I'm actually good at something.
I've got great friends. I can count on them all. There all on the team with me and are all hell of good players, they'll go far. They are more on the rich side but that doesn't bother me they don't act like snobby cunts. I'm actually surprised no one has figured out I'm not as rich as them. I don't walk into school wearing the finest of clothes and looking the best, although the girls don't complain.
Anyways let's get back to what I was talking about. That girl. The mystery girl. It's actually crazy how I met her. She knocked me off my feet, literally. I was playing a football match. We were doing great and we were drawing with the opposing team. Then they made that one player change that killed us. I had the ball in my arms and could see the end zone right in front of me. All we needed was that one touch down and we had the game in the bag but out of nowhere I landed on my back with a body standing over me.
They smiled at me. That was it. The game was over and it ended as a tie. The person who costed me the game still standing over me. Which was a bad decision on there part as I was highly pissed off.
"Bastard! You've just costed me the game!" I shout nearly ripping the veins in my neck.
They smiled. Smiled. I'm screaming and shouting and there standing over me smiling. If I wasn't angry enough before I surly was now. They took off there helmet and I swear to you everything went into slow motion. The helmet came off slowly followed by a sweep of long brown hair. My tackler was a girl. One beautiful..girl.
"Well I can't say I'm sorry, my moma raised me to never lie" she smirked. That damn smirk. I was stuck to the ground.
She was gone a few minutes now and I'm still stuck on the floor. Why ain't I getting up. I'm just not sure I'm able.
"Jay you good man?" Ryan came running over to help me up. I took his outstretched arm and pulled myself up.
"Eh yeh I'm good, just in a slight bit of pain" I half heartily laughed while limping towards the sideline with Ryan holding me up.
He helped me the whole way to the changing rooms. All the guys clapped for me when I entered. I smiled.
"Thanks guys. Well done to you's all, that was one cracker of a game you's all played amazingly and we didn't loose nor win but it was nothing massive, it's only a practise game"
"Yeh man your right so don't get yourself down either. We all know what your like Jay boy, you didn't see him and honestly neither did any of us" Sean admitted.
After the team finished talking and cheering everyone up we decided it was time to head. Just as I limp out the door I'm stopped face to face with the other team.
"Jay boy unlucky run, how does it feel to get stopped in your tracks by a girl?"
Luke Barns. Baltimore Ravens captain. Oh why didn't I see this coming.
"Shut it Barns" my boys turn up behind me to defend me.
"Feeling weak Alvarrez? Got knocked out by a girl so you need your boys to pick you up" he says as he glances over my shoulder at the others.
Just as I go to swing at him Ryan grabs my fist. Lucky he did or my football career would be in the bin. Just as I turn to walk away my tackler shows up at Barns side. He gave her a well done kiss and laughed.
"What's even funnier is the fact that it was my girl that knocked you the fuck out Alvarrez. You don't understand the pleasure that gives me" he snickered.
I walked away no matter how much pain I was in, I was leaving. The pain that shot through my leg, my arm and my back was agonizing. All I wanted was to get away before I done some damage.
