Panya's POV
I woke up, feeling groggy. It was another Saturday morning, and I didn't wanna wake up. I walked towards the window, opening the blinds, and looking at the sea of people walking towards their places of work, and others going on early jogs. I felt content. I forgot to mention, I live in Paris, and I'm used to always seeing so many people. I took in a deep breath of morning freshness, mixed with coffee. Everything was going perfectly until my little sister decided to shout, "Panya there is some mail for you. Mommy said I should call you". I immediately panicked as I had applied to an International School for Girls and chances of me being accepted were less than 0.01%. The school stopped accepting students at 10th grade but because of my IQ and talents, I was put into consideration.
I quickly ran downstairs, almost tripping. I was having mixed emotions. I was scared, happy, and kind of excited at the same time. I was so ready to leave this place. I wanted to explore the world, and this school was going to make that a reality. I walked into the kitchen and greeted my family, which consisted of my mother, my sister, and my dog Holly.
"Panya, there it is," my beautiful mother said to me while pointing to the table.
There it was on the table. It was black, almost as if it was filled with dread. "I can't open it, Natalie you do it," I said to my younger sister. She quickly opened it and after reading it, she whispered something. My mom couldn't hear, but I heard it loud and clear: "You made it."
I ran towards my sister, picked her up, and gently hugged her. As I was doing so I felt my face against her pyjama top and it was damp. I then realized that I was crying. I was so happy. My sister was telling me how much she was going to miss me, and our pointless arguments. I loved my 12-year-old sister, even though she reminded me of my father, who had left us when I was only 8. According to the letter, I was to leave in 24 hours. They would come to my house and fetch me. So my mother had to shop, for me, and I'd have to pack my clothes.
The rest of my day went by pretty fast and I spent it with my little sister, cherishing the moments I had left with her. We fought a lot but, I was going to miss her. She was my confidante, the person who listened to my ranting whenever I was pissed off at life. She made life worth living and now I had to leave her behind. I couldn't even think about leaving Mommy. She's the person who's been there for me since day one and protected me, and leaving her was going to be hard.
My little sister usually slept alone in her room, but today both of us slept with my mom as it was the last day before I had to fly to a different continent altogether. "Panny, are you ever gonna leave me?" my little sister asked after we changed into our pyjamas, "I'm never gonna do that to you baby" I responded knowing that I'll be home within 4 months. "Do you promise?" I looked at her and started feeling sad but I held my tears back and responded. "I promise baby." And I kissed her on the forehead.
Sleeping that night was difficult as I was thinking about the opportunity that I just got and what I was about to face because of it.
My heart was pounding...
