A Small Scuffle

I was on Xandar trying to gather info for another lead. I was running short on funds and I needed to find my next job ASAP.  As I walked around the dull city streets I kept an ear out for anything interesting, but these Xandarians live pretty simple, basic, and boring lives. With a sigh I leaned against the railing on the walkway, looking down at the people scurrying about below. My gaze wandered over to where a green woman was resting against a building. She stuck out like a sore thumb because her skin was so brilliant. A few moments later, a blond man was roughly shoved out of the building and he was shouting at the shop owner. I noticed that the green woman and man exchanged a few words. The blonde guy was tossing something that glinted in the sunlight. Everything was going great between them until she assaulted him, grabbed the orb-like object, and took off running.

"Bingo! Whatever that is, it's gotta have a decent price tag on it..." I immediately sprinted after the thief and tackled her from behind once I caught up. She let out a grunt as she landed on her stomach and I snatched the orb from her hand. "YES!" I was laughing like a maniac as I darted through the crowds of Xandarians. I came to an open courtyard area where there was a fountain and a...tree?... drinking from it. A raccoon holding a very large gun was talking to the tree creature. Again, they stuck out like sore thumbs and I decided not to catch their attention. I tried to turn around nonchalantly... only to get body slammed by the blonde guy.

When I hit the ground the orb was knocked out of my hand and started rolling away. Blondie scrambled to his feet and scooped it up before taking off into the crowd. I heard a chuckle and looked up to see the raccoon had his gun aimed at Blondie. "I live for the simple things in life. Like how much is this going to hurt?" Seconds later I heard a scream coming from behind me. "Writhe, little man." The raccoon said with a sneer and bared his canines. I kept my eyes on him to make sure he wasn't looking my way. He was still watching the blonde guy getting zapped and then turned around to his tree friend. "Stop smiling, ya idiot. We're supposed to be professionals."

While he was distracted, I quietly started to shuffle my way to the opposite side of the fountain. Ranger Rick's ear swiveled in my direction and he half turned his head towards me. He raised his gun and I could hear the whirring of the machine as it warmed up. The look he gave me was of pure contempt and hatred which was kind of scary. Add that to the fact that I was staring down the barrel of a gun and I was terrified.

I felt like I was in an old Western during a stare down. I slowly started to stand up and then tried to make a dive behind the fountain but I wasn't fast enough. I heard his light chuckle as electricity coursed through my body. I let out a scream as I curled up in fetal position in an attempt to alleviate the pain. Golden light suddenly pierced my eyelids.

"Drop your weapons now! You are all under arrest!"  Nova Corps. Great. Just great.

The raccoon dropped his weapon with a loud clank. "Aw crap."
