[ set in late 2022 ]
As soon as Liza awoke, she knew something was wrong. Whether it be the stirring she normally felt gone silent; empty even, or the stabbing pain in her abdomen. Though the room was dark, she just knew something was off. David remained in his spot next to her, sound asleep. She flicked on the lamp on her bedside table, and checked the time on her phone. 4:52 am. She'd gone to sleep at around midnight. A mere 5 hours ago, everything had been perfectly fine. She shone her flashlight down towards her midsection, and scooted up in the bed. Blood, and she knew it had to be from the inside. Oh my God. "Oh my God, David, wake up." Liza said, grabbing ahold of her lover's shoulders and gently shaking them.

"Mmm?" David replied groggily, barely opening his eyes.

"D-David there's something wrong. Something with the baby - I think I miscarried. I-I'm sorry. S-so sorry." Liza blurted, sobs getting caught between words. Without a second thought, David scooped her up, settling her in the passenger seat of his car. Liza cried out in pain, clutching her stomach. She was seven months pregnant. Seven months. There were two left, and somehow she'd managed to fuck this up. She exhaled, letting out another breathy sob. David put the car in auto-drive, as he gently rubbed Liza's back, reassuring her.

"It'll be okay. It's gonna be okay my baby. You'll be okay." Liza sobbed again, almost choking. "I love you so much Liza. And the outcome of this is not going to change that."

"I'm so sorry."

That was the last thing that the couple heard from the doctor, the rest was a blur of numbness. They clung onto each other, Liza's tears soon getting confused with David's, both of their tops becoming soaked in tears, and they held each other as closely as possible, nonetheless. They were barely even adults - two people at a mere age of 26, they had never had to deal with a big loss, yet here they were. Neither of the couple had any words, after the doctor dismissed them they just silently got up and walked out, both of them complete messes, yet neither of them caring. They were supposed to have a baby girl, they were going to name her Meaghan. The baby shower was scheduled for two weeks in the future, and Liza didn't even want to think about how she'd cancel those plans, let alone break the news to the internet. She squeezed David's hand, lightly rubbing her thumb in circles against it. They quietly walked back into their house, and upon their arrival back home, David sat down on the couch and put on Beauty and the Beast. Liza curled up against his side, finally dry-faced, having run out of tears. "I'm so sorry. I wish I could've done better." She told him, and although she wanted to keep a strong front, her shaky voice failed her.

"Shhhh. Elizabeth Shaila Dobrik, you look at me," David began, glancing down at Liza's hand as she twirled her wedding ring around her finger, "this was the opposite of your fault, Pookie. We're young, we can try again in the future, and most importantly, we have each other. So Liza, my gorgeous wife who gives me purpose, and who gives my life meaning, no matter what happens I promise you, we will be alright." Liza looked up at him with complete adoration in her eyes, and he leaned down to kiss her temple.

"I love you. So damn much."
