It was nothing but chaos as Quill expertly maneuvered through the sky and he had a helluva tough time getting up to the Dark Aster where Rocket and the Ravagers blasted a hole in the ship. Along the way, Yondu was struck from the skies and had to make an emergency landing.

"You haven't seen the rest of me, Quill. I'll see you when all this is over." Yondu's voice crackled over the speakers before fading out.

We managed to make it aboard the Aster but it was so freaking dark inside and Drax was apparently thinking the same thing. "It's so dark in here! I cannot see anything."

After that, Groot had extended his hand and the little glowy floaty things drifted around the room, giving us light. It was magical and I wish that the circumstances were different so I could fully enjoy them.

"When did you learn to do that?" Drax questioned the tree.

"I'm pretty sure the answer is 'I am Groot.'" Quill answered flatly while staying alert.

Another moment of silence before Drax spoke up again. "I am honored to have you as my friends. This dumb tree here, is my friend. This injured, vertically challenged girl is my friend." I frowned and sent him a glare but he had already moved on. "Quill is my friend. Even this green who-"

"Would you just shut up already?!" Gamora yelled at him.

"GAMORA!" Our attention was directed to who I assumed (from stories I heard) was Gamora's sister, Nebula. "You are my sister but you will fall by my hand. I hate you. I will- AAGGH!"

An orange glow whizzed by my head and then the woman was launched backwards. We all turned to Drax who held a smoking blaster. "Nobody talks to my friend like that."

"You guys make your way to the door. I'll disengage the lock so you can get in. I'll meet you up there." Gamora directed and we split up. On our way through the maze-like ship, we met the welcoming committee. Some bald headed freak with an army behind him stood in front of Quill.

"Star-Lord." The man whispered.

"Finally!" Quill responded excitedly.

"You will never make it to Ronan." The man said then we all exploded into action. Despite my injuries, I was holding my own. I'm sure I'd reopen some wounds and I'd get an earful from Rocket later.

I took down two soldiers and picked up their weapons, firing at anybody who got too close. I noticed Quill getting clobbered so I blasted the enemy. This gave Quill enough time to get it together but before he could do anything, Groot came by and ripped out the electronic part of the guy's head.

Next thing I see is Groot bashing a whole bunch of dudes around a tunnel violently. I was a little horrified that such a sweet being could be so scary. When he was done, he retracted his arm and let the lifeless bodies fall to the floor. He then turned to us and gave us the happiest grin I've ever seen, almost as if he was proud of what he'd done.

We made it the rest of the way only to find that the door had not been unlocked yet. "What's taking her so long?" I questioned as Quill went to investigate.

"I don't know. I don't see anything on it that will help us open it, either." He stated. Next thing I know, the door is flung open and a hole is blasted through the floor. Gamora jumps up from the floor below and we charge at Ronan. He slowly turned towards us and gave us a terrifying smirk. Quill braced himself as he fired the weapon, sending us flying back and stirring up a bunch of dust.

Silence. We all stood ourselves back up. "Yes! We got him!" Drax shouted. But our victory was short lived as the dust settled and we saw Ronan standing there uninjured. He lifted his war hammer and a low sound emitted from it as we were all pushed back by an unseen force.

Drax staggered to his feet and charged at him with his blades, only to be knocked aside.

"You will all die with this planet. And I will-"

I saw Rocket heading right towards us. He flew his ship right through the glass and tore open the front of the ship but managed to run over Ronan. Immediately, we started to lose altitude. Quill pulled a limp Rocket from the ship and I feared the worst. I was relieved to see his chest and shoulders moving with each breath.

We all huddled close together as the Dark Aster plummeted towards Xandar's surface. Everything was quiet. I noticed that Groot had begun to surround us in vines and branches to make a wooden cocoon for us. The little firefly things danced around the small enclosure and I felt peaceful.

Rocket woke up and his face showed pain. He reached up to cradle Groot's face with his tiny paws, searching his eyes for an answer. "Groot, no. You can't. You'll die." A single tear trailed down his face and Groot gently wiped it away. "Why are you doing this? Why?" He sounded so desperate and pained.

"We are Groot." Groot's voice was calm and low and his eyes were filled with love. I felt my eyes fill with tears and a sad smile spread on my face. I knew in my heart that I loved each and every one of these idiots. They were my family. These were the last of my thoughts at the moment of impact.
