I promise

Today was going to be different.

I would do anything to make sure today was indeed going to turn out for the better! If only he would cooperate… maybe I shouldn't even bother… NO! I will not give in to such thoughts. I will make this happen!

“SANS YOU LAZY BONES! TIME TO WAKE UP WE ARE GOING OUT!” I shook my elder brother awake, but he was hardly responding. His deafening snores filling the living room. He of course had fallen asleep on the couch once again, I swear he does these things just to infuriate me!

No matter how much i shook him or pleaded with him to wake he remained ever asleep. Oh for the love of Asgore! We were never going to make it if it continued like this! I sighed as i picked him up under my arm. There was no more time to wait on him to wake.

With my new charge I bolted out of the house onward to our destination. As I passed each building in our little town of snowdin I reminisced past memories.

Sans and I building our first snowman together… he looked so happy and even energetic that day!

The tree I had fallen out of and my brother had caught me, I always did look up to him… even if he was shorter than me. I felt so bad after when he had broken his arm, but he still smiled as if nothing had happened at all.

Then it was if everything had changed… he didn't look so happy anymore. I tried everything I could to get that warm happy smile back on his face and still i was met by that forced grin of his.

I hadn't realized I was just standing there now. In the snow staring at the building that awaited us, not until I felt the tears rolling down my face. I looked down at my brothers slumped form hanging form my arm.

I lifted him up and hugged him tight to me before getting ready to open the door. As I twisted the knob I felt him stir. “heh… love you bro.” he groggily spoke as he rubbed his sockets. I smiled brightly at him.

“I love you too brother.” and then we went in. Everyone cheered bright and loud “ HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” I almost couldn't contain myself when sans had nearly jumped a mile high in my arms clinging to me for dear life.

I watched as his eye lights scanned the room and he let out a breath of relief. “you planned all this paps?” He smirked up at me and I swear my smile grew more. “WHY YES I DID BROTHER! I HAD TO DO SOMETHING TO GET YOU TO SMILE AGAIN!”

He seemed taken aback for a moment. I began to feel panic within my bones. Did he not like this? Did I the great Papyrus do something wrong? and then it happened.

He smiled.

His face lit up like I had never seen it before! I set him down so he could take in all his friends here at Grillby’s. I have never seen him so happy as he laughed with a bunny monster, and joked with a sentry dog.

And then he looked back at me and it it was like seeing the stars for the first time. Something we all longed to see. My brother was happy again.

And I promised, No… I vowed on my soul to keep him happy. To make sure I can keep seeing that smile on his face. To see those eyes lights of his twinkle with true happiness.
