Joey's P.O.V.

"Joey you cannot do this, wait a couple of weeks before announcing the law change, do not proclaim it on the day of your coronation. This speech is madness, you will be hanged!" Sawyer yells at me while walking frantically back and forth in the hall outside of the throne room. We are only minutes away from my coronation, I had not intended to let Sawyer read my speech with my first proclamation, but he had found it anyways. I know he is only worried about me, but I have made a promise to Daniel, I will not break it. I would rather die.

"I will do this, you can not stop me. I love you as a friend, but you are overstepping your position. The law is wrong, and I will change it. Nothing you can say will stop me. You know as well as I do,  that once my mind is made up it will not change. It is decided, that is final." I send him a serious stare, he knows that he has lost, he cannot stop me when I reach this point.

"Alright, I see there is no point in arguing this any further. But remember that I did warn you." He says with a stern look. Even though he knows it's pointless he still tries to make me rethink. You have got to admire his determination and his care.

"I will remember, but I will not yield." I answer him. At the same moment the doors open, and I know it is time for me to enter the throne room. Inside are hundreds of people; royals, nobles, guards and servants. I see dusins of young ladies clearly brought here in hope that I might take on of them for my wife. Even with the rumors that have been circulating about me, they still showed up, hoping the rumors were wrong.

I walk forward with pride, and look to corner of the room hidden by the shadows where he is standing. The love of my life. I will be brave for him, so he will never hide in the shadows again. I will stand before the eyes of God and men and accept any consequence, that is my vow to him.
I reach the front and stand in front of the throne as the high priest reads out the coronation words.
"Do you, Joseph Michael, first of your name, promise to protect, cherish and guide this nation and it's people to the best of your ability? Do you promise to give your life for your people if needed? Do you promise to live selflessly to the benefit of the nation? Do you promise this is the eyes of God and his children and all the holy spirits?" His voice rings out as they place the scepter and gold apple in my hands and the crown upon my head.
"I solemnly swear so do to." I answer clearly while taking my seat at the throne.
"I then proudly pronounce you, His Royal Highness, King Joseph Micheal, First of His Name, protecter and lone ruler. May his bloodline be grand and his may his rule be long. All hail King Joseph!" He proclaims and the audience answers him;
"All hail King Joseph!".

And then it's time.
The first proclamation.
I could hang for this, I know I could. They can despise me. God knows enough of them have stated that my love is a sin in the eyes of God.
But why is one love more true than another?
If we truly are God's children, would he not want to protect us all?
Have we not all been made in his image?
I step up to the podium, my feet feel heavier than usual, burdened by the words I am about to speak.
But I know this is right, this is my way of undoing my father's tyranny. People may leave me, I may be left halfway through the woods, but I will never be alone. No one truly is alone.
I cannot know if my mother would have guided me to do otherwise, but I have to trust that she would have wanted me to be happy. If I do not do this now then more may be hurt and I may loose everything. I've decided what's right and what's good, I shall go through with it rather then doing what is easy. Someone will be on my side. I know they will be.

"As I greet you as my people and my Kingdom I announce my first proclamation. Some may be shocked, some may show disgust and some may be relieved. Change is difficult, that is why our laws have mostly lasted long. But in my opinion, as we enter a new time and a new rule, there is one law that is inhumane and goes against the will of God himself.
There for, I, King Joseph Micheal, First of My Name, hereby declare that all shall be allowed to love, cherish and marry all, be they man and man, woman and woman or man and woman. As God has given us the ability to love and as he has created us as children of his image, I see it as a violation of his will to punish such love by death. And as I make this proclamation, I also make another.
A proclamation of love.
A promise of everlasting love in front of the world to the only one who shall ever hold my heart. The one who brings me joy. The one who brings me worry. The one who brings me life.
I love you, I will marry you, and I will cherish you forever.
I promise this to my Prince.
Daniel Preda."
