Chapter 10

“I don’t know what to do but tell you that I love you…”

(Chris POV)

It’s been a week and half since I been back in The Tapp. It felt good to be home and seeing all my family was the best. I was pretty much on the basketball court every day and I was so ready to show my skills this year at school so I had to get my conditioning up. I had performed a couple of times at some talent shows and recorded a bunch of songs at this local studio cause I had to keep honing my craft. Tina said that Def Jam wanted to have another meeting with me in a month. They said they were just letting me enjoy my birthday then we needed to get down to business.

I didn’t mind I just wasn’t trying to rush things. I had met with some of the young acts that were on there. Plus LA Reid even had Usher call me at the studio to try and convince me to sign with them. I mean Usher is dope and I trust his insight but what stuck with me was him saying I should choose the label that's right for me and I definitely don’t want to be just another artist on the roster. I wanted a label that understood my vision and that’s to be worldwide. Like MJ worldwide!

Hard decisions...

I missed Sweets a lot and I called her bout 6 times a day. I texted her “Good Morning Beautiful.” every morning and “Good Night Beautiful” every night…Well I've always done that but I promised her nothing would change! She has been real busy with the rehearsals and finals at school. I’m just glad she staying busy. She even said she hasn’t had but a few nightmares lately cause she is too tired to even dream, which is dope, whatever works. Of course I talk to TJ, Shay, Eric, Shaun, DeMarcus, Moe and even loud mouth nosey ass Keisha every day.

They my homies for life.

I had 2 days til our birthday and I wanted to see Sweets SO bad. That’s really all I wanted…well…ok ok that, 2 new pairs of Jordan 3’s, 2 new fitted’s and a few outfits but mostly I wanted to spend our birthday together!

“So what you want to do for your birthday Baby?” My Momma asked me as we sat at my Auntie Chris kitchen table.

“I don’t know…I kinda want to have like a house party or something.” I said eating this bomb ass sandwich I made myself THANK YOU!

“Well that sounds like a fun idea as long as it’s nothing too crazy Chris.” She said firmly.

“Naw just the fam..A few of my friends..Nothin too big.” I said getting up putting my plate in the sink and leaning against the counter.

“That’s fine…Well it will be good to see you having fun instead of pouting around the house.” She said laughing her laugh showing her deep dimples.

Like Mother, Like Son.

“I have not been pouting Ma…I’m good…Pssh.” I said cocky like.

“Boy please…All you’ve been doing these last few days is going to the Studio, Sitting in that room playing video games and not answering anybody’s calls but Helena’s.” 
Momma said making her point.

“Nah…I was just chillin that’s all.” I said scratching my head.

“You miss her a lot don’t you?” She asked warmly.

“Yea…I mean it's hard hanging out with somebody almost every day then bam…They're gone.” I said putting my head down on table as I sat down sighing.

“Look Baby I know it’s hard…First loves are always like that but there will be another one.” She said trying to comfort me but I wasn't even trying to hear that!

“No…That’s just it Ma I don’t want it to be another one! I can get girlfriends but Sweets is special…She is everything I want!” I sat up and shook my head while it was down.

“I mean our birthdays are the same day Ma and we have so much in common except our age…But everything else is almost the same…I just get her and she gets me. I…I love her.” I said stopping myself cause I was get too emotional.

Hate that

I looked up to see my Momma's face red and tearing up. Momma was my world she was everything to me too. We had been through so much cause of my Bitch Ass Stepdad. I would die for her and I was willing to at one point. So Sweets and I had more in common then she knew.

“Chris I know you think this is love but you're only gonna be 15…You have a looong time to learn what love really is so don’t rush it Baby.” She said patting my shoulder.

“Momma…I-Love-Her.” I said looking into my Momma’s watery eyes.

“Ok Baby ok I believe you…Now what you gonna do about that room you don’t want your Auntie to come beat you down boy.” She said changing the subject.

“Hey that was Keeis and Austin!” I said standing up from the table picking up my basketball.

“I don’t care…I said get in there and clean that room Chris.” She said sternly.

DAMN IT!

“Man…Ok.” I said but didn’t protest cause I’m trying to stay off punishment.

“What was that?” Momma asked quickly.

“Yes Ma'am.” I said correcting myself.

“Thank You.” Mama said laughing a little then walking to the living room.

I got the room clean…Damn Austin and Keeis! It’s so many of us in this house that we have to clean up constantly just to be able to move around! Momma and I were staying here while we were in The Tapp and even tho I love my fam I was used to my own space.

“Hello.” I said into the phone.

“Hey you…What you up to?” Sweets asked sweetly into the other end.

“Nothin…Shit just got done cleaning up this damn room…Bout to go shoot hoops then studio later. What you doing? I asked giving her my full schedule!

“Just got home…Guess what?” She asked all happy into the phone.

“What's up?” I said.

“I’m going to Atlanta for my birthday…I leave tomorrow morning!” She said all happy in the phone.

My heart sank...

“Oh..Shit that’s cool.” I said faking my happiness. Like why would she go to ATL when she could come to VA and spend OUR birthday with me?

Oh yea...Her Mom is there...

“Yea I gotta start packing and I can’t wait to see everybody...It’s been a so long since I have seen my family!”  She said.

“Well aight I will let you get on that…I will call you later tho.” I said trying to hide my disappointment.

“Ok…Talk to you later.” She said hurrying off the phone.

Well I guess I’m on my own for my birthday. Buzz. Buzz. I looked at the phone: Monique. I thought to myself don’t do it Chris she ain't worth it. Buzz. Buzz. But I’m just gonna hang out tho...
