Summer Break
Chapter One ~ Excitement for the girls
Paige's POV
It was 6 o'clock on Thursday when realisation sunk in for Paige. Only half a day left at school, and it was the summer holidays.
No more stupid teachers. No more impossible questions. No more draining exams.
Just sun, sand and waves.
And the good news was that for the first time in what seemed forever, she would get to spend time with her boyfriend, James.
They met at a school camp for choirs and school bands, a 3 day residential thing that Paige was reluctant to go to, but then reluctant get away from. James was singing in his band while Paige sang in her school choir.
Going back to their dorm at night, Paige and her friend Ellie ran into James. They got talking, and Paige bonded with him over their similar taste in music and slightly dorky personalities.
After the camp had ended, James and Paige talked constantly on Facebook and Snapchat and a few days later, he asked her to be his girlfriend. She was shocked but of course, she said yes.
He made her happy. But the only problem was that they lived hours away from each other.
That, and Paige's friends didn't trust him.
None of them went to the camp, so they were confused and eager to find out as much about this mysterious boy as possible. They bombarded Paige with endless questions about him, constantly and pointlessly in her eyes.
The age gap seemed to be their biggest doubt. Yes, she was 14 and he was 17, but that wasn't that big of a difference, right? And anyway, age is just a number.
That's what she attempted to tell them every time one of them made a cruel joke about the age gap. They insisted that they were just being protective over her, and Paige appreciated that, but they didn't need to be; James was a lovely boy.
This summer was the chance to prove that to them.
Allie, Natasha and Avia were the three friends that Paige would be spending the most time with that summer. They were her best friends, the ones that knew her and loved her the most.
They had plans to go to the beach whenever the weather was nice, to go to the cinema whenever there was a good movie on and to go to every party together, even if just one of them was invited.
Basically, they wanted to make the most of the six weeks they had of break. Perhaps it was a little ambitious, but either way it was promised to be a good way to spend precious time.
Paige was in her room day dreaming about this, when she got a Snapchat from Allie.
Allie was a short haired, blue-eyed girl who's academics, charisma and sassiness made her a very loveable person. She had a boyfriend called Theo who was a tall, blond sportsman from their school. They had been together for about a month. Everybody could see how happy they made each other, and they made a pretty cute couple.
Allie was the brains of the group and the one that kept them organised and grounded. She took no bullshit and avoided drama at all costs. Despite this, she did come out with some good insults sometimes - this was followed by a series of sorrys and I-swear-I-didn't-mean-its.
Paige, on the other hand, was a little different. She wasn't afraid to be outgoing or unique. She never followed the crowd (or listened to teachers very often).
Her hair was cherry-red, a colour that she dyed herself but was eager to change. She wanted a much brighter shade of red at first, but the school wouldn't allow that, so she had to settle with a subtly dark cherry colour.
For summer, she had decided that she wanted to go for blonde. She was a natural brunette, and she had never done blonde before, so it was a bit of a risk but one she was willing and excited to take.
Music was her passion. She sang and played the guitar and ukelele and adored country music. The nearest thing to pop she enjoyed was Mumford and Sons who, she insisted, was NOT pop.
She was in Set 1 in school but wasn't top of the class, like Allie, Natasha and Avia. She found most classes boring except for music where she was in her element.
She opened Snapchat on her phone and opened Allie's picture. It read "Last day tomorrow! Can't wait! :D" on top of a picture of herself smiling widely.
Paige grinned before replying: "yes cant wait ;) So excited for the hols"
Soon, she got a response saying "Sameee, gonna be so good with all of our friends !"
Allie meant not only herself, Paige, Natasha and Avia, but a few others. Avia's boyfriend Brock would be there no doubt, along with Theo of course.
Coming down for a few days would maybe be Ellie, Holly, Ross and Zeke, who lived slightly up the coast from where the school was.
The school was situated in a small picturesque beach town called Postlerigg (This was where most people in the school lived).
Holly and Zeke were dating, but the four of them were the best of friends. Everybody wanted them to come down to see them.
The best thing was that James was finally coming to see Paige - something that made her more joyful than words could explain.
Little did she know that something was about to change in Postlerigg, changing her life forever.
This would be a Summer Break she would never forget.
