Chapter 1
As my eyes slowly flicker open, I notice that I'm lying in a hospital bed with Tris. Alex and Liv sleep like perfect angels across the room in their cribs. Tris's beautiful blonde hair is covering her eyes, so carefully not to wake her up, I brush it out of her face. She's lying in a ball, making her small frame look even smaller. Sometimes people mistake her as a kid, but I think she's perfect just the way she is.
Lazily, her eyes open, and she looks around the room, slowly adapting to where we are. This is one of the multiple reasons I like her; she's observant, never missing a detail about anything.
When her breathtaking gray-blue eyes finally look into mine, I smile at her. She smiles back, and says,"Morning." It's almost a whisper, because she's still weak from her injuries, but it's strong enough for me to hear. "Morning," I whisper,"Are you feeling better?" A small, but relieved, smile tugs at her lips. "Yeah, I feel a lot better." As she says this I can tell that she's telling the truth: her face has flooded with color again, she has more energy, and can move around more. "Good," I say, smiling back.
We lie in silence, my hand draped over her hip, and her head lying softly against my chest. I comb my long fingers through her short, but silky hair. Gently, I plant a kiss onto her forehead, and wrap my arm around her back, slowly pulling her closer to me. "I love you," I whisper,"You're selfless, incredible, pretty, strong, smart, brave, and just truly amazing. I hope that you can see that, because if you can't, you're blind." She blushes, filling her cheeks with a bright red color. "Thanks," she mutters,"But I'm not pretty, and I'm not most of the other things you said." Tris is right; pretty isn't the right word. She's something more than that. Beautiful. Perfect. Incredible. "You're right Tris, you're not pretty. You're beautiful."
She smiles into my chest, and wraps her arms around my neck. "I love you," I whisper, making her dazzling smile bigger. "And I will never stop," she mumbles back.
We both close our eyes, exhausted and desiring sleep. Tris snuggles into my chest, curling up into a ball, and rest her head onto me. "I will never let you go," I whisper, and protectively lie my arm over her back. She quickly falls asleep, her arms wrapped around my torso.
I don't know when we'll be out of here, or when we can settle down and have a life together. It may be never, or may be sooner than I think. Or, it could be now; I could raise a family with Tris, be free from danger, and live my life to the fullest. This seems perfect, but I know if I need this to happen, I have to focus on the present, and wait for the future.
Lost in thought, exhaustion suddenly hits me like a brick wall. My eyes close, temporarily blinding me from reality, and bringing me into my own perfect world. Instantaneously, I drift off into a deep, but relieving, sleep.
