To me, lgbt+ is more than these 4 letters.
It's more than a rainbow flag.
It's more than a group of people with the same characteristics.
It's more than anything related with loving someone from the same sex as you.
It's more than a community,
more than a label.
lgbt+ is more than fighting for our rights, it's more than same sex marriage.
lgbt+ is the voice of the ones who will fight until the end,
lgbt+ is about the believers,
the dreamers, the fearless ones
and those who refuse to give up.
lgbt+ is a family, it's our family.
lgbt+ is liking a straight boy or girl who you know will never like you back.
lgbt+ is being scared to let down your family and friends if you express yourself as you really are.
lgbt+ is having to deal with homophobic bullies and bigots everyday.
lgbt+ is being told you shouldn't be yourself "that much".
lgbt+ is being afraid of what other people may think about you.
lgbt+ is not feeling comfortable while holding your boyfriend's or girlfriend's hand in public.
lgbt+ is being worried about prom and wondering who you should take with.
lgbt+ is being sad that you are in the closet but terrified of getting out of it.
That's lgbt+. Or should i say, those are some aspects of being part of the lgbt+ community?
Because lgbt+ is much more than that.
lgbt+ is being proud,
it's being happy,
it's being free.
lgbt+ is being part of a supportive family.
lgbt+ is feeling your heart racing every time you're with the person who makes you happy.
lgbt+ is a community of brave and fearless people.
lgbt+ is more than us.
It's our friends, our co-worker, our teachers and our neighbors.
lgbt+ is the stranger that sits next to you on the bus.
lgbt+ is everywhere.
lgbt+ means having to fight against close-minded bigots and homophobes.
But lgbt+ also means having the joy of celebrating your sexuality with others like you.
I am a bisexual boy born in Portugal and i'm in a religious school. My school is very conservative and i have to deal with homophobic comments in a daily basis. This is something we will all have to fight. But I'm glad to say that i have a lot of friends who accept me just the way I am and will stand with me no matter what. These are the kind of people that you should be with. There will always be people who will want to tear you down. But there will be the ones who will love you and support you in everything.
