It was eight o'clock on a Saturday night and you and your best friend were ready to have some fun. You had driven two hours to spend the weekend with her and celebrate her birthday. The two of you spent a couple hours getting ready in her apartment and jamming out to her Jams playlist on Spotify.
Once the both of you had your outfits picked, your hair was done, and your makeup on she drove you across town to one of the bars downtown.
You walked in and immediately scanned the room. You saw a couple of open bar stools towards the back of the bar.
"Why don't we go over there?" You said pointing to the spots.
"I'll follow you." She said.
You crossed the room and slid onto the bar stools which were next to two guys. You glanced at them and they were pretty big but looked friendly enough. They gave the two of you a small smile and a nod before turning back to their own conversation.
You ordered your go-to for yourself: a Jack and Coke. Your friend ordered a Sex on the Beach or some fruity drink that you probably would hate. You didn't drink anything red or orange when it came to alcohol. You were just fine sticking with your whiskey and beer.
You brought the glass to your lips and took a sip. You felt a shiver run down your spine as the alcohol slid down your throat. The bartender definitely made it strong, but that's how you liked them.
The two of you sat at the bar, sipping on your drink and talking about random things when suddenly the guy next to you turned to you.
"How are you, ladies?" He asked in a deep country accent.
You were a little caught off guard but your best friend didn't miss a beat.
"We're good. How are you guys tonight?" She said flashing him a flirty smile.
"Just enjoying a night off from work. Looks like your drinks are getting low...could we get you guys a couple more?" He asked.
"Sure," you said as you finally worked up the courage to say something to him.
He told the bartender to give you a refill and add it to his tab. As the four of you sat there talking you found out they were actually wrestlers who were just in town for the night before they drove to the next town in the morning. The bigger of the two guys was named Braun. The other was Bray.
"So a wrestler, like UFC stuff?" You asked, not knowing much about wrestling.
"Not exactly. You know WWE?" He asked.
"Like John Cena and the Rock?" You asked.
"Yeah. We work for that company. Little more storyline than UFC." He said.
"That's cool." You said nodding before taking another sip of your drink.
Just then you heard Ed Sheeran's Shape of You come on the speakers and your lips curved into a smile. This was one of your favorite songs. And it was such a good song to dance to.
You slid off your bar stool and stood up so that you could sway your hips to the music. It was a small enough bar to not have a dance floor but you weren't going to let that stop you from dancing.
You noticed Braun following your movements as his lips curved into a smile.
"Omg, this is my favorite song. Dance with me!" You said as you reached out and took his hands.
"I don't dance, honey." He said in his deep voice.
"Please!" You said as you put your bottom lip out in a pout.
"I guess one dance wouldn't hurt..."
Your eyes widened at how large of a man he really was when he stood up. He had to be 6'7 or 6'8 which meant he towered over your 5'4" frame. You felt like a small child standing next to him.
He held his hands out to you and you took them. It started out a little awkward. He wasn't much of a dancer and seemed to have to left feet. You were a little too tipsy off the whiskey to be steady on your feet. But about halfway through the song the two of you got into a rhythm that worked. He would pull you in and then swing you out, he even spun you around a few times.
You were having so much fun. It was very spontaneous. You would normally never drunkenly dance with a stranger at the bar. But there was something about Braun that made you feel safe. Even though he was a huge man, you didn't feel threatened at all.
The song ended and he wrapped his arms around you and leaned you down into a dip. Your eyes widened as you wrapped your arms around his neck and looked up into his eyes.
The two of you stayed like that for a few moments longer than was probably socially acceptable but it was like you couldn't get yourself to look away. There was something about his eyes, a softness to them. It was like you could see right into his soul. His face was just inches from yours and you could feel his warm breath on your lips. You breathed in the scent of his cologne and it made you sigh.
He finally broke the gaze and lifted you upright. You felt your head start to spin and you weren't sure if it was from him or the alcohol, probably both. You went to take a step and stumbled. He reached out and grabbed you, keeping you from falling.
"You okay?" He asked as he looked down at you.
"Y-yeah. I'm g-good." You stuttered as you reached for the back of your bar stool. He kept his hand on your arm until you were securely sitting on the chair.
"Thanks for the dance," he said with a wink before picking up the glass in front of him and bringing it to his lips.
