~ Prologue ~

It was a simple day, quiet and calm. The weather was nice, of course. It's always nice, LA was known to have nice weather. It's been three months since I moved here with my best friend and it's been seven months since my mother and sister pass away. I'm staying strong though, I just had to get out of that small town in Tennessee. "Stella," I jumped and twisted my body to face Veronica, "Yeah?" I said and she slowly approached me. She sat down on the swing next to me; we were in a park.

"On my walk, I found this nice coffee shop just a block from here. Maybe, we could get jobs there." She looked at me as I started to laugh, "Veronica, you can barely make simple coffee! How could you possibly make extremely difficult coffee?" She giggled and ran her fingers through her blonde hair. "Then I guess, i'll just work at Hot Topic." She jumped to her feet and stuck her tongue out, I jumped to my own feet and shouted, "No way! We agreed that if there was a Hot Topic near our apartment that I would work there!"

"Sucks for you! You get to make extremely difficult coffee." She playfully mocked my voice and I snorted, "Rude." We both stared at each other before bursting out laughing. After a few minutes of unnecessary laughing, it died down and we sat back down on the swing. "No, you can have that Hot Topic job." I said and looked at her, "The coffee job seems way more interesting anyways." She smiled and ruffled my hair which caused me to scrunch up my nose.

"Thanks, Stella bear." She sand my stupid sixth grade nickname which I hate and I rolled my eyes, "I'm twenty, Veronica." I murmured and she grinned. "You're never to old for cute nicknames." I rolled my eyes once more and watched as a boy with black hair exited his vehicle, soon a girl with blonde hair stepped out and ran after him before jumping on his back. "Stop staring or you're going to scare them off." I jumped at Veronica's voice and felt my cheeks flush, "I wasn't staring." I defended myself and she laughed softly before patting my shoulder.

"Don't worry, Stel. Your secret is safe with me."

"What secret?"

"The secret that you haven't had a relationship since high school and the secret of you staring at that lovely couple that seems to be walking over." She overly explained and I looked towards the couple as they headed towards us with smiles. "Hey!" The girl cheerfully said, "I'm Perrie and this is Zayn." She introduced herself and her boyfriend. "She's Stella and I'm Veronica. It's a pleasure to meet you." Soon enough, Perrie and Veronica were in this deep conversation about what are the latest trends and stuff.

"You've got an interesting name." I said to Zayn as he leaned against the pole holding up the swings, "Yeah." Is all he said and I slightly frowned. "Yeah." I repeated and looked at my hands, he pulled out his phone and started typing away.

"Shit." He said under his breath, "Perrie, sweetheart. We need to go." His voice was warning her and her eyes widened slightly before she nodded. "It was nice meeting you two."

"You, too. Bye." Veronica answered for both of us and waved as they got into Zayn's vehicle.

"Wonder why they left in such a rush, but that doesn't matter. Perrie gave me her number."

"Yeah, I wonder why." I ignored the number part.
