(Lily and Carter are characters from my other book, soft boy. I do recommend reading that first. I got such a good reaction to them I decided to make a story for them)
Lily
I wake up on Saturday morning at 10:00. Carter isn't in the bed across from mine. They must've gotten in the shower. I rub my eyes. Just then I remember what day it is.
Its adoption day! Possible caregivers are gonna be coming through the agency to look for their regressor. Its always an exciting and stressful time for me and Carter. Its exciting because everyone in the agency wants to be adopted out, but stressful because we never get picked. Its pretty rare that people want two littles. And a caregiver that wants two littles and will accept one of them being on the gender nonconforming spectrum is even more rare.
Carter comes out of the bathroom freshly showered and smelling like strawberries. He's wearing his favorite little outfit. A princess onesie and a pink tutu."Its adoption day," Carter says. I giggle.
"Yes it is. Today's the day, I can feel it!" I say excitedly. Carter smiles and rolls their eyes.
"You say that every week," they say.
"But this week I mean it," and I do. I hop in the shower and get dressed. I wear my froggie onesie and a pink tutu.Carter and I like to match on adoption day. I put my hair in pigtails and clip my pink adult paci to my onesie. when I go into our bedroom Carter is sitting on their bed coloring. Their leg bounces up and down anxiously.
"It'll be okay Carter!" I say giving him a hug. He hugs me back. We hear a knock on our door then it opens.
"Okay girls, its show time!" Ari says. Ari is our case manager. She makes sure we eat, clean, and take care of ourselves. I grab my fluttershy Stuffie and Carter gets his gray kitty.
We walk to the auditorium where the stage is. Every adoption week they have all the littles stand on the stage and they read our biographies.
The curtains open and the seats are filled with caregivers. It takes a lot for those caregivers to get a seat. First they go through a background check. Then a long interview process. Then a home check.
The announcer goes down the line introducing everyone. Carter and I are in the middle of the stage holding hands.
"Next is our sisters Lily and Carter. Carter is a non binary little who enjoys being the little girl. They use he and they pronouns. Their 18 and has a little age of four to six. Carter's favorite little things are their paci, ponies, sippys, Thomas the train, and strawberry shortcake. Their Case manager says he's very shy and always on good behavior. He needs a lot of reassurance and cuddles. Next to them is Lily! She's 18 with the little age of three to five. Her favorite little things are pull ups,Care bears, my little pony, and coloring. Her case manager says she's the more social of the two. She's very talkative and a little bratty. She always looks out for Carter. Remember these two must go together, talk to Ari if you want to meet them!" The announcer pauses and Carter and I put our Paci's in and wave.
After everyone has been introduced we go to our assigned playroom. There's four playrooms and 6 littles in each. If a caregiver had interest in you they talk and play with you. Carter and I are always in room 3. When we get there we play with the dollhouse.
"Lily?" Carter says shyly through his paci.
"Yes?" I say looking up at him.
"If I wasn't special we'd be adopted by now," he says quietly. I put down my doll.
"Well if they don't want you the way you are, then I don't want them!" I say. Carter smiles.
"Thank you for being my sissy!" they say.
"Thank you for being my sissy!" I say back. We giggle and go back to playing.
We see caregivers visit the other littles in the room. Every week at least 4 littles get adopted and new ones come in the day after.
"Hey Lily, Carter," Ari says. We look up at her.
"Hi Ari!" I say excitedly. Even Carter is excited now.
"There's someone here who wants to meet you guys, I think you'll really like him!" She says whispering the last part. My eyes get wide and I look at Carter who's just as suprised.
"Send him in!" I say excitedly. Ari leaves and I reach for Carter's hand. Soon a man comes walking towards us. He has dark skin and buzzed hair. His eyes are kind.
"Hi girls! My name is Jeremiah," he says reaching his hand out. I shake his hand and Carter does too.
"What are you guys doing?" he asks.
"We playing with dolls," Carter says shyly. I was surprised he even talked. Usually when we meet people they stay quiet.
"I'm really interested in getting to know you guys, wanna tell me about you?"
"I'm Lily! I came to the agency 4 months ago with Carter! We've been friends for a really really long time! I like ponies and princesses and going to the park!" I say happily.
"I'm Carter. I like Thomas the train and my little pony. I like kitties and hamsters. I also really like gray and black and pink." he says shyly.
"I have a kitty at home," Jeremiah says. Carter perks up.
"What kind of kitty!" they say excitedly.
"A gray tabby, her name is Storm, she looks a lot like the Stuffie you have beside you," Carter squeals and then blushes.
"You should meet her, she's super friendly and likes to play, would you like that?" Jeremiah asks. Carter nods.
"I would too! I've always wanted a kitty!" I say. Jeremiah smiles.
"Would you like to come see the house?" he asks. Carter looks at me.
"I know its sudden, I'll take you back here afterwards and we can have more meetings if that'll make you happy!" I grab Carter's hand and they nod at me.
"Okay! We'll come with you!" I say
