"It's not what it looks like," her voice was strong yet soft. However, it most definitely what it looked like.
"It looks like, madam, that you are stealing from the royal palace." The guard was young, still unsure of himself but was ecstatic at the chance to make his first arrest, a thief no less! The girl whose hand still clung to the delicate glass shaped as the Royal Prince's head had a different idea in her mind. She was of courting age with long straight brown hair tied up in a rough bun and was small, not short, but with a bone structure that left her standing like a green bean. Her blue eyes shone with a look only described as mischief and her fair cheeks blushed with a bright crimson caused by the adrenaline running through her veins and the thoughts through her head. She was not going to lose her hand today.
The young Knight stepped forward to grab the petite Lady by her arm, the girl perceiving this used all the might she could muster to slam his Royal Highnesses face on the Guard's foot. He yelped in surprise and pain, immediately bending over to clutch his foot surrounded by the shattered Prince. Reason finally reformed in his mind and he looked up to see the girl's body darting down a corridor at the end of the hall.
"Halt!" His voice cracked only adding to his anguish. With one stubby arm on his sword, he ran after her picking up several other Knights on his track. A vain on his forehead popped out and his thoughts were not on his foot or his misfortune but of what his punishment will be. A Guard in front of him pointed in the direction of the door leading outside of the palace and he charged in front of everyone. It was dark, just after twilight. His eyes searched the courtyard when he spotted a small frame running into the apothecary. He better catch his girl or his honor will be lower than the dirt under the totem pole. A girl bested him! Pushing these thoughts aside he snatched a torch from the outside of some building and nearly broke down the apothecary door as he stomped in. The old man, with long silver hair, frightened by the spectacle pointed in the direction he just saw the girl run in. With a slight nod of appreciation, the Knight ran off and coming to a dead end with no girl was ready to go back and ka-bob the man when he turned and noticed an open window. Sticking his head out he saw the young women scrambling up the wall to the roof. Cursing under his breath the Knight followed pursuit, determined that he would get this girl if it were the last thing he did.
With a determined shove, he pushed his weight from his armor onto the roof to see the girl already two roofs down. So they hopped in silence from one house to the next until the girl stopped and whirled around to look him straight in the face. He was still a good distance away, closer than before yet still a house behind. Panting he slowed to a walk thinking the girl finally gave up when he stopped dead in his tracks. He was startled by the Lady's smooth rosy lips lifting in a sly smile. She then slipped the knife out that had been stashed in her sleeve. The Knight was taken aback he actually thought she was intending to fight him, which would of course end in his favor, had he been one armed and half blind he was certain he would still overpower the Lady that stands in front of him. However, dueling was far from the maiden's mind. Knife in hand the Lady sliced a rope bag open inside carrying large wooden poles for construction and pole vaulted over the edge of the building. Eyes wide open the young Guard ran to the edge of the house he was currently standing on to see the girl disappear into the inky darkness of night. He gulped and stood there long enough to convince himself that this had not been real.
