Lyles POV.
I removed my arm from the chest of the body next to me as I picked up my phone, the ringing waking me up and bringing me back to a conscious state. I looked at the time to see it was 4am. I had only went to sleep a matter of hours earlier. "Hello?" I asked, my eyes still narrow as I heard chaos on the other end of the line. "Who is this?" I snapped slightly louder. "It- it's Ivy, Lyle. I need you" Ivy spoke with desperation as I instantly sprung to life, leaping off the bed as I grabbed the clothes nearest to me before running out of the apartment and to my car.
I pulled on the grey jogging bottoms as I ran down the stairs and how I never fell is a complete miracle to me. I ran along the parking lot, unlocking my car before leaping in. I threw my oversized black hoodie onto the passenger seat along with a pair of dolly shoes as I began to drive. I took deep breaths knowing that something was wrong, not that I knew what it was. My main thought was that something was wrong with Denis but what still didn't make sense was the fact she phoned from another mobile. It wasn't hers or Denis' and it wasn't the home phone.
I had taken as many shortcuts as I could as I pulled out at the road across from the TV and Radio station, ready to turn right and drive along a small bit of road before parking up. I pulled out as I noticed bright blue and red lights, flashing vigorously. "What the fuck is going on" I muttered as I noticed the end of the road was blocked off, Ivy and Denis' apartment block completely surrounded with police cars. I parked behind one of the police cars as I grabbed the hoodie and shoes before climbing out of the car as police officers looked at me.
"What has happened?" I asked as the police just looked at me, none of them answering me. I groaned before running past them and into the apartment block. Various cops tried to stop me as I ran up the stairs but I just told them that Ivy is my friend, all of them realising that I must have been the person she called. I reached their floor as I noticed their door was wide open, a cop standing in the doorway. He looked me up and down and in all honesty I would have been suspicious about me too. I was wearing a sports bra and grey jogging bottoms, my hair wild, a hoodie and shoes in my hands.
"They are my friends" I said softly before I heard Ivy. "Is that Lyle?!" she quizzed before running to the door and grabbing me. I was taken by surprise as I wrapped my arms around her tightly as she practically choked me. Most of the top half of me was bare and at this moment it was going through the elements. My back was freezing from the early morning air, my front was burning from Ivy hugging me tightly and my left shoulder and arm, well, they were soaking. Tears running down them from Ivy as she sobbed.
My arms moved from around her as I placed my hands on her arms as I removed them from me and pushed her back slightly, my hands then gripping her shoulders as I looked at her with a concerned expression. I took in every single detail. Her face was red, her brown eyes surrounded with bloodshot, her face was covered in tear stains and of course fresh tears, her eyes were puffing up as I looked at her while they filled with new tears, her bottom lip was trembling, and her hair was wild. You could tell she had been pulling her hair as she cried for what could have been hours for all I knew. In all my years of knowing Ivy, I had never seen her this fragile. She was always so much stronger.
"What is going on?" I asked softly as more tears fell, only now did I realise I haven't seen Denis. I walked past the unresponsive Ivy as I looked in the apartment. I glanced around before noticing Denis sitting on the floor, his back against the sofa as he stared at the wall in front, he seemed completely unaware of what was going on around him. Police were walking around from room to room, a team of forensics arriving as they pushed past me to investigate deeper. This normally cosy home had become a busy police investigation scene.
I walked over to Denis as I crouched down next to him. I didn't know how he was going to react to me, we didn't exactly end on good terms earlier. "Denis" I said his name softly as he looked at me, tears filling his eyes. His golden eyes stared at me as I could tell he was numb, that was before the exterior broke. His eyes began to shut, his mouth opening, nose wrinkling as he screamed from pain, a deep, deep pain. He wrapped his arms around me as I wrapped mine around him. He rested his chin on my shoulder as he screamed, tears flooding over me as I held onto him tightly and only now did I cry, even if only for a split second.
