Street Justice
Part One:
As the sounds of the bullets fire over head I lay here behind this wall for cover. One bullet ricochets off the corner almost hitting me as I sink to the floor. It’s getting harder and harder to breath with each gasp of air I take. I look down and see that my lung has been pierced, the blood leaking all over my clothes. The world starts to become a blur, my vision weakening even with all the adrenaline running through my veins. The world becoming silent even as the sound of gunfire draws near. My last thoughts as i close my eyes are “How did i ever get myself into this situation...” Then as I can feel my soul leaving my body I begin to remember how this all started....
It was about a year ago that I joined the police force, a rookie who wanted to change the streets of a corrupt city. Everyone I cared supported my idea of becoming a cop, so I did. It was my first day at precinct 13 and police chief Rodriguez was reading my guidelines. He was an older man well into his 50’s with a beer gut and a large cigarette in his mouth.
Rodriguez: “Vincent, you better be ready to protect each and every single citizen of Agello city. ACPD takes our jobs very seriously and do what ever it takes to get the job done. I’ve heard great things about you from the trainers at the police academy. Perfect scores all around, excellent physical condition, and a smart ass as well. Well what are you doing standing in my office?! Get out there and do your job!”
“Yes sir!” I walked out and started heading for the exit. I stopped momentarily to check myself in a mirror. My dark eyes looked brighter in this blue uniform. I started for a few moments longer brushing my brown hair back to make sure it stood in place.
As I walked the streets looking for something to eat I noticed a suspicious figure heading into an alley. I followed closely behind as he entered a broken down building making sure to stay far enough back he wouldn’t notice me, but close enough so that I wouldn’t lose him. He stopped on on the 8th floor of the building entering one of the rooms. I followed him in hopes of finding something big for my first case.
The suspicious figure began talking and as I peaked around the corner i could see a few more men in black suites listening to him.
Suspicious man: “The docks are going to be clear for you tonight.”
Unknown man: “Good we need this shipment if we’re going to take over the city soon.”
I wasn’t sure what they were talking about, but I had to put an end to this. So jumped out of the corner, pulled my pistol out and yelled, “ACPD you’re all under arrest!” Biggest mistake of the day. They pulled out sub -machine guns and opened fire! I quickly ran for cover firing back. The men in the suits began retreating, but their mole made a break for the stairs. I followed him avoiding a hail of bullets.
As my perp was trying to outrun me he pulled out a pistol of his own and fired back at me. He was a horrible shot, but doesn’t mean he’s any less dangerous. Without thinking he got off on the second floor and began running for what he thought was the exit. He quickly realized it was a dead end as he stopped in front of a big glass window. He turned around and tried to shoot me, but he was out of bullets. So he proceeded to pull out a knife.
I put my gun away and slowly approached him. “Look it doesn’t have to be this way... put the knife down and we’ll just talk.” Of course he doesn’t listen though. He charges me and swings his blade horizontally. I duck to avoid it and punch him in the stomach. He stumbles backwards and hits the glass window. He recovers and tries to stab me, but I just easily side step him and grab his wrist and twist it so he drops his knife, but as i did this he grabbed my gun and pulls it out the holster! He tries to point it at me but we’re too close together for him to use it effectively. Still he keeps trying to aim it at me when an idea hits me. I grab him by his waist and pick him up smashing through the window as we fall 10 feet and hit the floor.
I roll around the floor getting off my soon to be first arrest. I look back up at the shattered window and say to myself, “Not my best idea...” I get up and pick up my pistol holstering it again. I lift my perp up beginning to cuff him when all of a sudden something blunt hits the back of my head. I fall to the floor and begin to lose consciousness as i hear, “What do we do with the pig?”
“Kill him...”
