"What should we do about your family?" asked Nihan apprehensively.
Kemal blew out a breath, taking a few moments before he answered.
"We need to tell them," he said.
He didn't look enthusiastic about the idea and Nihan groaned.
"Your parents already hate me, so maybe they'll hate me even more," she said.
"They're stubborn and they haven't tried to get to know you," said Kemal.
"What am I going to tell them? That I just turned their son's life upside down again?" asked Nihan, rubbing a hand over her face worriedly.
"Nihan, I am sorry about the way they have acted to you in the past," began Kemal.
"You're apologising to me when my mother has acted the way she has towards you?" asked Nihan, bewildered. "No apology necessary, I need to apologise to you."
"Your mother already knows and she's not happy," said Kemal.
"No, she's barely spoken to me actually but she'll come around. It's her grandchild after all," said Nihan, upset.
Kemal put his hands around her small ones, lending support. Nihan smiled at him gratefully.
"It's the same with my parents, it's their grandchild. They'll have to come around," said Kemal.
"And Asu?" exclaimed Nihan suddenly. "She's going to kill me."
"I wouldn't quite go that far," said Kemal easily. He sobered however as he thought of the difficult conversations he would need to have - with his family and with Asu.
"I can't even think about this, it's too stressful," said Nihan, shaking her head. She put hands over her face with a loud sigh.
"Please relax, the baby will be stressed along with you otherwise. Do you want something to eat?" asked Kemal, trying to distract her.
Nihan started to shake her head but then realised she was starving.
"Can we have kebab?" she asked eagerly.
Kemal chuckled. "You can have anything you want," he said.
Later that day at the Soydere house
Kemal knocked on the door to his parent's house. There was little they could do but let his parents know. Things would soon be changing drastically and his family and Asu needed to be aware. Nihan was hiding behind him trying to make herself look as small as possible. If she could have disappeared at this moment, she would have.
Fehime opened the door, her smile wide as she saw her son. Her smile quickly faded as she saw Nihan who was still trying to look inconspicuous behind Kemal. Kemal noticed Fehime's look of anger and looked at Nihan. He sighed and took her arm, pulling her forward. Nihan glanced at him uncomfortably, avoiding Fehime's angry gaze.
"What is she doing here? How dare you bring her to this house?" asked Fehime.
"We need to talk to you," said Kemal.
"I have nothing to hear from her. Get out. My son, you know where we stand. You are not welcome here either if she is here. Go!" said Fehime.
Huseyin had appeared behind Fehime. He said nothing, his mouth in a firm line of disapproval.
"Mother, be reasonable. What will Nihan do while I talk to you? Sit on the street? In the car, what?" asked Kemal.
"She can go back where she came from and never show her face again," said Fehime angrily.
Kemal sighed, turning to Nihan who was crying silent tears. He took his car keys out of his pocket.
"Go wait in the car, please. Don't leave. Okay? Take the keys...but don't leave," said Kemal, lowering his voice.
Nihan nodded, taking the keys without a word. Fehime was glaring at both of them and Huseyin had still said nothing. His silence was disapproval enough.
Nihan turned and left the garden, hearing Fehime's voice behind her as she spoke to Kemal.
"What are you thinking, bringing her here? Why?" she scolded.
"Mother..." said Kemal, sounding exasperated.
Nihan quickly exited the gate and looked around. She got in the car, breaking down further. Then, wiping away her tears, she put the key in the ignition and drove off, wheels squealing as she accelerated. Kemal whipped his head around. His car was gone.
"Ah, Nihan," he murmured.
"Well, now that I don't have a car, can we go inside for a moment?" asked Kemal.
His parents motioned him inside, Fehime glancing outside again as she closed the door. She disliked Nihan but she also hadn't intended to upset the girl so much that she would take Kemal's car as she had. She hoped she would at least drive safely. Not for her own safety so much but because Kemal would never forgive them if something happened to Nihan because of them.
"Tea?" asked Fehime, as they sat down.
"No, thank you. I can't stay long," said Kemal.
"Have you set a date with my pretty daughter?" asked Fehime.
Kemal shook his head. "There are...complications."
"What is complicated?" asked Huseyin, disbelievingly.
Kemal hesitated for a moment, then sighed.
"Nihan is pregnant," he said.
"Good, she can have a baby with that devil and leave our family alone," said Fehime, dismissively.
Kemal said nothing, giving his parents a look.
"It's your grandchild," he said quietly.
Fehime gasped loudly, her hand flying to her mouth. Huseyin shook his head, anger evident in his features.
"You've ruined your life, that girl's life and Asu's life too. I thought we taught you better than this," said Huseyin angrily.
"I will take care of my child," said Kemal. "That's all I care about right now. Taking care of Nihan and our baby."
