Paige's POV
I kick my bare feet against whatever door is in front of me. I'm still in the house, that much I do know. My hands are tied behind my back with some kind of rope that scrapes against my skin when I pull on it. I think I might be in the bathroom closet since there is a washcloth jammed in my mouth. I push my tongue against it and it topples out of my mouth and into my lap.
All of the lights are off and I strain to see out of the spaces of the door I'm behind. Definitely the bathroom- I can see the green bottle of Landon's cologne on the counter reflect any light that happens to be coming in from the window.
"Where is Paige?" I hear Landon shout. My skin tingles at the sound of his panicked voice and I kick even harder against the door, hoping to let off some kind of sound but all that I manage to make is a subtle thump.
I strain against the rope around my wrists until my skin is raw from the pulling. It must be some kind of special knot if it hasn't pulled apart yet. My phone. Where is my phone? I pat around on the ground for it. I remember shoving it in my bra before some guy came up behind me and grabbed my neck.
Found it. I shove it forward with my fingers and reach around me to push the circular button at the bottom. It illuminates the entire closet. How he hell am I going to enter my passocde with my hands tied behind my back? 1-2-3-4. Should be easy enough.
INCORRECT PASSCODE. It buzzes on the floor and the screen turns red. Shit. I take a deep breath and reach around my back again, pointing my index finger at the screen.
"Please work, please work," I whisper to myself. 1-2-3-5. Crap.
INCORRECT PASSCODE. 3 ATTEMPTS REMAINING.
"Kyle! I don't have your damn drugs!" Landon almost screams. I steady my hand once more and point my finger once more at the screen. Come on, Paige.
1-2-3-4. Yes!
The moment my phone unlocks, I'm holding down the button to get the woman called Siri. It dings and speaks in an accented robot voice.
"Siri, call Diane." I try to speak as clearly as possible while I whisper. I move to lay down on my side so my mouth is closer to the receiver.
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." Siri replies, her voice much too loud for the small space that I am stuck in. I sigh and press the button that will allow me to speak again.
"Call Diane." I say into the phone, my voice more agitated now that I hear scuffling in the room Landon is in.
"Did you say call Diane?" Siri asks, her robot voice steadily becoming my worst enemy.
"Yes." I spit into the phone.
Lines wave across my screen for a moment and then the picture of Diane floats over the screen and my phone is calling her. Thank you, Siri. The dial tones buzz a couple times and I bend down and tap the speaker button with my nose.
"Paige? Are you alright? It's late." Diane stammers into the phone, her voice groggy like I had just woken her up.
The sound of a front door slamming and car doors banging makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck. I pause for moment, deciding that if Landon was still in the house, he would be shouting my name and looking for me, right?
"Paige?" Diane's sweet voice presses.
"Yes, I'm here. Diane, I need your help." I mumble into the phone while kicking my feet into the wall behind me.
"What's wrong, Paige?" Diane's voice goes two octaves higher- her concerned voice.
"I need you to come to Landon's right now." I whisper into the phone.
