Aliens in the Palace

"And after that your mother wants you to... Bridge, Bridgette, Bridgette Larissa!" Maddie, my lady in waiting and best friend, waved her hand in front of my face, effectively bringing me back to reality.

"What?" I glanced up at her from my place on my bed. Maddie had woken me up in her usual weird way, jumping up and down on my bed until I woke up, and was now filling me in on today's schedule.

"I know that 11:00 am is soooo early but at least try to pay attention!" She scolded before going back to listing today's schedule. "Oh, and I'll might be a little busy for most of the day so you'll have to figure out something to do."

That caught my attention. "You have a date with Holden don't you?" I grinned.

"Maybe..." She blushed and nervously tugged at her dark brown hair.

I squealed and jumped up off the bed to hug her, "You have to tell me everything tonight, okay?"

"I will! As soon as it's over I'll come find you!" Maddie promised.

"You better! Have fun!" I waved as she shut my bedroom door.

"What do I do now?" I muttered to myself. Mom and Dad were in some meeting, or that's what I thought I had heard Maddie say. Darcy was probably napping with Darwin, she loved that dragon. That left my uncles, and I do love them really, but I wasn't really in the mood for pure craziness right now.

I sighed and walked over to my wardrobe where I slipped a box out from under a pile of clothes. I opened the box and pulled out a simple light blue dress, which Mom would kill me if she new I had. This dress, made out of cotton and with a simple silhouette, was obviously not a princess dress. It was the dress of a peasant, and what I wore when I wanted to sneak around without being recognized.

I pulled the dress on and braided my hair into a simple side braid. I looked done at my shoe collection, hoping that a pair of simple flats would magically appear, they didn't. Bare feet it was then.

I slowly opened my door and glanced around before sneaking down the hall. One thing about my parents castle that many fail to realize is that it's huge. Not "Oh wow you could fit a hundred peasant houses into the master bathroom!" huge but "Oh wow we have an indoors archery range, polo court, soccer field, and Roman Bath! Where did those come from?"huge. I don't think anyone has ever fully explored it, and that's exactly what I'm trying to do. I have a system of symbols that I've scratched on the walls to help me get around, without them I don't think if ever find the same place twice.

I was pretty far into the palace, walking down the hall that lead to the indoor gardens, when I suddenly slammed into something hard and fell into my butt.

"Oh 'ello, sorry about that," the man stood up and held out his hand. "I'm a little busy right now though," he glanced over his shoulder, "You might want to-" he was cut off by an explosion further down the hall, "Run!"

He jerked me up off the ground and dragged me after him as we ran down an adjacent hall way.

"Who are you, and what was that explosion?" I asked, wondering if he was a spy from the Land of Almost Here. If he was a spy he was dressed pretty weird for one, last time I checked their spies didn't wear a dark blue suit, brown trench coat, and tennis shoes.

"I'm the Doctor!" He grinned at me over his shoulder, "And that was the sound of a Sontarian blowing up one of your walls."

"Of course it was," I muttered. Okay, he was probably, definitely, a spy. A really good spy, considering that he was the first one to ever actually get in the palace. "You mind telling me what exactly a Sontarian is?"
