Blood. It runs the world. To be more specific, human blood, runs the world. But that's to be expected when the world is ruled by vampires, right? In 3068 the Great Darkness spread across the world. It was this massive blackness that made the sky continuously dark, casting out all light. Some people say it was from all the pollution, others say the vampires made it with dark magic. After it spread, the sun, moon and stars were never seen again.

And within hours, those creatures that everyone had thought to be myths, began their attacks. Within days, vampires had taken over all our large cites, and small countries were already, fully under control. Humans who were not killed on the spot were taken into slavery, or turned into feeders, those who supply the vampires with their blood. Those who made it out into hiding survived for awhile, but once the vampires had the whole world under their power, they quickly assembled armies, who went and wiped out the last of the 'wild' humans.

Or so they thought...

I could hear my Mother screaming at me to run. I was trying, but that damn thing had ripped a big hole into my leg. It also didn't help that I was carrying the dead body of my little sister, Mackenzie. I could hear it catching up behind me. I'm almost there... Almost to the mouth of the cave. Suddenly it's icy hold grabs my ankle. I went tumbling to the ground, landing on top of Mackenzie. My already blood soaked shirt is now not only soaked in my blood, but Machenzie's too.

I rolled so I was on my back and threw a right hook at its ugly, blood covered, mangled face.

I hate dhampires!  They're ugly little things, a spawn of the devil at its core. They're even worse than a vampire because they are sick things of nature! A child of a vampire and a human, they are considered a vampires pet. They are the vampires secret weapons. They have excellent tracking skills, they can find anyone, human or vampire, anywhere at anytime in any condition. They are covered in scars, gifts of their many years of violent training. Their body is much like a humans, one head, two arms and legs. But they run and walk much like an ape, bent over, on fours with their hands balled into fists. Their faces are always different, some have two eyes, some have five, some don't have any!

Usually they don't have ears, but if they do they're three little holes on their neck. None of them wear clothes. Vampires think it's unnecessary. Some are bigger then others, some are as small as a newborn baby. There is only one thing that every dhampire has in common, their mouth. Much like a humans but every tooth is a fang, filled with a vampire's poison. Unlike vampires they can't change a human into a vampire, they just kill them. As this one has to Mackenzie.

The dhampire lets out a high pitched screech. Shit, that thing is telling every dhampire within a twenty mile radius that it found humans! It lunged at me, but I roll out of the way, instead it sinks it's teeth into Mackenzie's already drained, cold, bloody neck. I quickly look around, I need to find something to get it to shut up, if I don't, we're going to have every dhampire in Amaia on us... I see a big rock so I scurry over to it. I pick it up and turn around just before the dhampire runs full blast into me and knocks me over. It starts clawing at my face, probably trying to blind me so I'd have no idea what angle it would try to attack from. My vision slowly started to turn pink, filled with my own blood. And a sharp pain starts to throb just behind my eyes,

I aim the rock and take a hard swing, there's a satisfying crack as it collides with the dhampire's head. It rolls off of me and lets out a low hiss as it claws at a giant dent in it's head. I get up and run over to Mackenzie, I'm almost to her when it jumps on my back, once again knocking me to the ground. I'm not going down without a fight, I think to myself. I wiggle, and hit it whenever I can. As long as I move around it can't get a good bite on me. After awhile the dhampire starts to tire. It weakens it's hold on me for just a second, but that's all I needed. I flop onto my back and slap it across the face and elbow it in the ribs. It's not much but it came as such a surprise to the dhampire he releases me completely.

I get it off of me, so he's hunched over by my feet. I kick him in the face... One, two, three times. And on the fourth time I kick with the rest of my energy... If this goes as planned, I'll survive... If not, I'm done for. My foot hits his jaw in just the right spot. Suddenly I'm splattered in blood. There's a sickening crack and low whimpers from the dhampire as he goes limp and falls down to the ground. But I'm not stupid, I know that just a broken jaw isn't enough to kill it.

I run over and get the rock. I slowly stalk towards the injured dhampire, like a cat stalks a mouse. I'm not usually a violent person, but this monster had taken the life of my lovely sister, hurt me and my Mother, and many other people. I lift the rock far above my head and bring it smashing down onto it's skull. There's a loud snapping noise as one last low screech escapes its bloody lips.

I bring the rock down several times, smashing the dhampires skull until the creature is unrecognisable. I throw the rock away and quickly bury the dhampire and Mackenzie. Poor, sweet Mackenzie. She never deserved any of this. No one did. I stagger into the mouth of the cave. Instantly my Mother throws her arms around me. "You survived!" She shouts as she squeezes me. Yeah... All thanks to you... I think sarcastically.

"My darling daughter Savan! You survived! You survived!" She sings over and over again. I roll my eyes and push her off of me. She's... smiling? Like actually smiling? A dark anger starts to swell up inside me. "Yes Mother!" I spit out the word in disgust. She becomes quieter with her chanting, until you can't hear it at all. "Yes, I'm alive! But Mackenzie isn't! So how the hell can you be smiling, singing, jumping up and down when your other daughter just died!" I scream at her.

"Am I not aloud to be happy that you survived?" She asks, I can tell she's trying to keep her temper under control, but the thing I want most right now is just for her to snap. Lose control. Express how I'm feeling inside... I just want to know I'm not the only one that has conflicting emotions. But then again, I probably am; when you're raised in a world where you are one of the last people in your species who isn't under control of the deadliest predator in the world, feelings are the last thing on your mind. Usually you're just like some kind of heartless monster, who just walks this earth waiting for your time to finally have the life drained out of you.

"No, you're not. Not when you know I'm going to die sometime anyways! It's inevitable in this hell hole of a world we call home!" I turn on my heel and storm away, into this cave that we'll call home for tonight until we find the others... Or some dhampire finds us and kills us in our sleep. Lately I'm not sure what option I like better. For the past two years I haven't let the dhampires kill me because I needed to protect Mackenzie, because I know our bitch of a Mother would run in the other direction if a dhampire attacked Mackenzie. Now that she's gone... I don't know how long I have left in this world. I hope not too long... I sit down and tend to my injured leg and head, wishing for death to come.

"One of our dhampire's have gone off radar Sir,"

"Yes... So? They go off radar all the time. Probably fell off a cliff or something, you know they're not the most intelligent animal,"

"Yes Sir, I am aware of that. But... This one's signal is comeing from... Underground,"

"Underground? You mean, it was buried,"

"Yes Sir," A  sick and twisted laugh escapes my mouth.

"A vampire would never bury a dhampire... It must be humans! Brilliant! We've found humans! Send a few hundred dhampires after them, If we're lucky they might lead us to a group of stray humans... better we wipe them out now, or else they'll make for awful pets,"

"Yes Sir," And with a wave of my hand, he was away. Sending for those humans impending doom...
