The Trials Begain

I follow the directions I have on my data pad. It leads me to a new area I haven’t been to before. It’s the section with the Officer’s Quarters, and now, much to my surprise, I’m going to live here.

I juggle my armor bag, garment bag with my uniforms, and a large sack with miscellaneous items including my light saber, as I head down the hall, checking rooms.

“Need any help?”

I turn, and see Zak heading for me. I smile at him, keeping in mind what Thrawn wants me to do.

“Sure,” I reply. “Think you can handle my armor?”

“No problem,” he replies.

I toss him the bag, and he nearly falls over.

“Uk! No problem!” he gasps.

I smirk, and say, “What are you doing here? I saw you standing behind Needa at the award ceremony yesterday. Did you get a transfer?”

“Yep, just today,” he replied. “I’m going to be the aid for Captain Needa. Looking for your new quarters?”

“Yeah,” I say, checking the next few room numbers. “I’m looking for YZ4993.”

“Oh, yeah, the numbering system is a bit complicated,” he replies. “YZ4993 is actually around the corner.”

He starts to lead me down a hall, and I ask, “So, how is it working with Captain Needa?”

“He’s a much better officer than Cedoc. Much more reasonable.” Zak paused a moment, thinking. “More honorable.”

Zak is quiet for a moment, then, as he walks along beside me, he says, “You seem happier to see me than the last time.”

“I suppose,” I say carefully. “Though, it wasn’t so much that I was unhappy to see you, but that my Jedi training was taking up much of my free time, and probably will for the foreseeable future.”

“Hmm. Does that mean you might acquiesce to a dinner date if you can find the time? Or have you bonded now?”

“Uh, no, nothing yet,” I say, feeling like a rat. “As to the dinner date, I would say, most certainly, if I can find the time.” I make sure to smile at him. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I catch the room number we’re passing by. “Ah, here we are. YZ4993.”

I stopped and insert my code cylinder and the door slides open. Going in first I see a short hallway to my right. I quickly note that the carpet is the same medium gray as my previous quarters. The walls, however, are a pale pearlescent gray that shimmered in the hallways subdued light.

To the left, is an open doorway to a large room with a holo projector. Standard Imperial issue furniture in a dark gray material is scattered about the room.

Nice, I think to myself. Perfect for reviewing my squads performance after a battle or other action.

I find the door to my left opens into a modest office. A holo projector, inter ship communicator screen and a desk fill the space.

As I am standing in the doorway checking out the office, Zak comes up behind me.

“You will find the bedroom a little further down to your right. This is a lot nicer than sharing with three others,” Zak says with a grin.

“It’s a whole lot roomier, that’s for sure. And no more snoring roommates. Not enough room to practice with my light saber, though,” I say as I turn and continue down the hall.
