I heard my alarm, but snoozed it. 18 times. By the time I got up, it was 8:15, meaning my biology class starts in 15 minutes. I got dressed, ran down the stairs, and grabbed an apple. I found my dad passed out on the couch, so I left a note before throwing in my leather jacket and lacing up my converse. As I sprinted to school, I realized I was going to be later than I thought, since I missed my bus.

I raced through the doors of the biology lab as fast as I could.
"Miss Martin, nice of you to show, please take your seat next to Miss Kosla. If this happens more than once, I am going to have to hold you for detention."
"I'm sorry Mr. Stevens, but..."
"No buts Miss Martin. Take your seat so we don't waste any more time."
This teacher was so strict. I better not get on his bad side, since he is also the head of the school. They were sort on employment.
"Miss Martin?... Miss Martin?... MISS MARTIN!"
"Y-yes sir?"
"Page 356, question 11, the answer please? If you are going to be daydreaming in my class, then get out!"
That remark earned a couple giggles from the popular group.
"Yeah nerd," commented one of them. "Stop daydreaming about the guy you're too skinny and bruised up to have."
I spun and stared into her blue eyes. I recognized her, from somewhere. Hard not to, she looked like a Greek goddess. With her long black hair, blue eyes and light golden skin, its not surprising every guy wanted her, even some of the girls did.
"You're one to talk, Sabrina, if you were any skinnier, you could replace the skeleton over there." I said, pointing towards the skeleton near the door.
"Oooh, I'm sooo scared! Look, Alexsa, you're cute and all but really? Fake bruises and cuts to make yourself look tough? Come on!"
"You, Sabrina Morris, don't know if they are real or fake." I said, venom dripping from my voice.
"Well sweetheart, let's find out then."
She took out a makeup wipe, and rubbed it on my bruises and cuts.
"Well, they are real. So tell me, how did you get them? Abusive parents?"
"Parent."
"Alexsa! What are you doing! Don't tell them! They will make you a fool for it!"
"I can take care of myself Anna."
"So? Spill!"
"No."
"What did you say to me?"
"I said no!"
"Do you have any idea who I am?!"
"Yes, you're the school's very own drama queen."
"Girls! No need to fight!"
"Yes sir."
The entire rest of class, I heard them snickering behind me. Until I could no longer take it, I stood up, and walked out of class. That earned me a detention.
****
"Welcome to detention, sit down and do your work, you may leave in 2 hours. I must step out, but I will be checking in on you. No talking, and no cell phones."
The teacher left, and I started on my work, until I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turn around to see a skinny guy, who must be about 6 feet tall, with strawberry blonde hair and gray eyes.
"Yes?"
"Hi I'm Ezra. I dropped my pencil, and I'm blind, so I don't know where it is, do you mind helping me?"
"Yeah sure!"
"I'm usually ok at handling myself. You see, I was born blind, so I know no different, I get used to it."
"Oh that's tough!"
I get up, and pick up his pencil and hand it to him.
"Thanks! By the way, what's your name?"
"Alexsa."
We talked for awhile, and got to know each other a fair bit. When detention was over, I tapped his arm 3 times to let him know I was going. We walked home together, we found out that we are neighbors, and that he knows about my situation. His parents know too. I walked into my house with him on my heels, to find my dad cooking in the kitchen.
"Ah! Hello dear! You're home! And who is this fine gentleman?"
We both stared at each other, completely shocked. My father hadn't acted like this since my mother died.
"Uh, Ezra sir."
"Oh! What an interesting name!"
"Uh, dad? What are you cooking?"
"Burgers! Actually, I need to go get some cheese from the fridge in the basement, could you watch these for a moment?"
"Sure dad!"
I was really enjoying the new dad.
"Well I think you will be okay, he seems better. If you need me, I'm right next door."
"Ok, bye, see you tomorrow!"
I flipped the burgers in the pan, I heard my dad come back up from the basement, so I turned around to tell him that I flipped them, then I saw a board flying at my head. I screamed as loud as I could, and I just managed to see my dad walking out the back door before the world went dark.
