My dad hurries off with Anna tagging behind him. I'm about to follow them when someone grabs my shoulder and yanks me backwards. I lose my footing and I would have fallen on my butt if I hadn't been caught by a young boy. I looked up at him curiously, trying to make out his features in the dim light of the street lamp across the street.
"Ronnie..." the boy breathes and a soft chill ran down my spine — the good kind.
"Jayce..." I whisper ever so quietly.
Jayce?
How?!
"You're dead..." I don't continue and he only looks away before lifting me up properly. I didn't want him to let me go, so I grabbed his hands.
"I'm sorry." Is all he says. "I know I promised you that I wouldn't leave you and...I think that promise is keeping me from the afterlife. I need to help you here."
"But...you're dead?!" I breathe out. All those months of not talking has led me to have a sore and weak voice, but I wasn't complaining. I didn't want other people hearing me anyway.
"I know, I know Ronnie. But I'm here now." He slowly pulled me into a tight hug. I wish I could say he was warm, but he wasn't.
I can't ask for everything now, can I?
"Where's Alyssa and Kat? And Allen? Where are they?" I frowned with worry. "If you're here then they —"
"I'm here because of my promise. They didn't make you a promise." He began to explain. "You can't tell anyone about me. I'm dead, and people are going to think you're crazy."
"I know, I know that, Jayce. I don't plan on telling anyone." I shook my head wildly.
"You need to get home and stop worrying your parents now. I'll be there as soon as I can, I promise." Jayce smiles at me and I smile back. He leans down to kiss me and I can't overlook how cold his lips feel against mine. "I'll see you soon, love. Now go." He urges me to move.
I shove my hands into my pocket and hurry off home. A figure stands at the gateway and I know that it's Anna, so I quickly rush past her in order to avoid her seeing my face.
When I step into the house, my parents are evidently angry.
"Where have you been?!" My mother gasps as she hurries to hug me. I frown and look at my dad in confusion.
"You didn't even leave a note." He starts. "I know you don't want a birthday party, but you didn't have to leave the house like that. You even left your phone at home that was just irresponsible, what if something happened to you?!"
I start to open my mouth when my mom released me but I push past her into the house and open up my phone. Typing in a text, I show my dad the screen. His eyes widen and his features soften.
'I don't trust Alyssa's mother.' Is what my text read.

Alright, Jayce is finally here. He's here to save Ronnie (or is it the other way around?). Here's an explanation as to why Ronnie can speak around Jayce.
Jayce is a ghost, and partially the reason why Ronnie stopped speaking altogether. She still talks to herself sometimes, and Jayce is one of the few peo — entities, that she can still converse with. The thing with selective mutism, is that it's not permanent, and it cures overtime. Guess we'll be seeing Ronnie transform now.
Alright well, I've got to go and study now so bye loves!
