Elanor's eyes open to see everything dim. She climes out of her burrough to stretch. As she did, her eyes widened to see everything moving and quite. There was a warm wind swaying the grass and flowers, yet not another animal in sight. "So this is the night? It's quiet, and very tranquil" she muttered. She then did a short walk to the river to drink, yet upon her arrival, stopped to see the moon. It was full, and she noticed how its light danced on the water gracefully. "Hello Vulpes!" said a friendly voice from above. Elanor was startled and crouched to either run, or attack. She looked all around in confusion to see nobody there. Then she stopped for a moment, and looked to the trees. There sat a plump, round headed bird with big eyes. "Where you talking to me?" She asked, staring at it oddly. "Of course I was, Vulpes! You're the only one around for now, after all." The bird answered. "Who are you Vulpes? What's your name?"

"Why do you keep calling me that? My name is Elanor."

"That may be so, but you are also Vulpes." The bird flew to Elanor's side near the water. Elanor looked over to it. "Arent you afriad i'll kill you?" She asked. "Oh goodness, no. Why, I lived for so long, death isn't a fear of mine anymore." the bird boasted with pride. "Allow me to give you my name. My name is Mentis. I am Strigiformes."

"You are what?"

"An owl, dear." he said, walking to the edge of the river.

"Come look." he called to her. Elanor walked over to the owl and looked into the water to see her reflection. "You see?" Mentis said "You are Vulpes. You and everyone who looks similar to you is Vulpes, or foxes if you prefer." Elanor started to understand more. "So tell me, why are you here? Usually another kind roams near the river." Elanor looks to the moon and takes a breath. "When I was very young and new to the world, I lived here with my mother, my brothers, and my sisters. Always not too far from the river. We lived in a small cave farther away from where I am now. One day, after the sun disappeared, water filled the cave and we all rushed out to see monsters who made thunder with their hands. We all followed mother, but the monsters came after us. It felt like we were running for days and all of us felt tired. I was so tired of going that, as I was running, I hit a log, and everyone rushed passed me. I tried to call them but they were too far already and the monsters were coming closer. The log was hollow, so I scrambled into it. After I was in, the monsters blazed passed me. Boom! more and more thunder was made. Then all was silent, and I was completely lost. The cave was lost. We where so far that I couldn't even sniff out much. I ran out of the log and straight ahead. I knew the river was there. It was always straight ahead. As I made it to the river, I found and abandoned hole in the ground, like one my rabbit friend lives in. I dug it out a bit more and climbed in. After it all, I was so frightened that all I wanted to do is sleep." Elanor looked at Mentis. He was just staring at her harder and harder. Then finally spoke. "You've been through some things. Your story is one of fear and loneliness." Elanor put on a sad expression. "But hey, its not the end of the story yet! Don't you see? You're still a bit young and not dead, so there's so much more in store for you." Mentis said with a ruffled of his wings. "What is in store for me?" She asked. "Well, whatever you'd like to be. It's all up to you now."
