Nick's POV

So far we haven't been able to track any signs of Red. Major Grey and I decided Ghetto was the best to lead the hunt to find Red. He has been really trying to find Red. I think it was to make up for him shooting me. Even so, he seems to be stressing a lot about this.

It's been a few weeks and Ghetto seems to become more and more stressed about Red. Sometimes he even forgets to take the medicine that keeps him from turning. All of us are starting to worry about him.

Shelby, Ghetto, and I had been retracing Ghetto's steps to finding Red's base. We have been searching for days, and we've found nothing.

"Maybe we should turn back" I suggest.

"No. Not yet. I know it's some where around here".

"Ghetto we have been searching for days. All we have seen is trees and walkers" Shelby states.

He doesn't pay attention to her, he only walks past her like she was never there in the first place. Shelby and I exchange glances, worried for our friend. We continued to follow behind Ghetto.

Eventually we come to a clearing, there were a few walkers but that wasn't a big problem. Shelby continue to observe our surroundings never the less. You always have to be on your out here.

"Ghetto maybe we should turn back".

"No, its around here I know it".

"We have been searching for days. We're low on supplies and ammo. I'm sorry, we gotta go back" I explain to him.

Before we could answer we herd and scream coming from somewhere nearby. Then another sound of gun shots fired. We give each other skeptical looks before running towards the screams.

Not too far from the clear was a house almost entirely covered in in vines. Walkers surrounded the house, trying to break through the door.

Through the windows, I could see someone moving through the house. I take my gun and start to shoot at the walkers. One by one they start to fall to the ground, at the same time the ones that stayed alive started making their way towards us. Shelby and Ghetto start to join me, killing a lot more walkers.

Twenty minutes later, bodies of walkers lay across the ground. Who ever was still in the house, wasn't coming out. With our guns still in hand, stepping over multiple corpses, we made our way slowly to the house.

As soon as the door was in arms reach, I knock on the door. There was no answer, the only thing you could hear was quit shuffling. I repeatedly original attempt to get the person to open the door.

"Hello. We took care of the walkers".

"You don't need to stay barricaded in there no more".

"We just want to help you".

Still nothing. Everything went deadly quiet, nobody dared make another sound. I tried the door and realized that the lock was broken. Whoever was in there would need to completely board up the door for it not to open.

Knowing this, I pressed my body up against the door and attempt to force it open. Little by little the door opened just a crack.

"Wait, no stop" the voice called out from inside.

By how high pitched the voice was, I realized it was a girl. I couldn't understand why she wouldn't open the door. With the information we gave her, that she was safe and we only wanted to assist her, she still refused to come out.

"We are only here to help" I repeated myself.

"No. No one can help me now. It's too late".

"At least let us try".

For a long time, she doesn't replay back, there is only the familiar silence. Then, we hear objects being pushed around. That noise suddenly stops and the door slowly opens.

The girl walks slowly and timid. Once a I get a clear view of the girl, I notice something on her shoulder. There was a lot of blood. There was nothing we could do. She was right it was too late.

"I told you. It's too late" she chokes out a sob. "I was so stupid to think I could come out here and find her".

"Find who" I ask.

"My sister. She ran away. I wanted to see her, to know she was ok, to tell her..." she cuts off.

She stands there hysterically crying, incoherent words spill from her mouth. She was begging for her sister, she wanted to see her sister, she wanted to know she was alive. Now, she won't ever know the answer to that question.

She wipes her eyes, then focus her sight on my hand gun.

"Can. Can I borrow that" she asks.

I take a look at my gun, then back at her. I shake my head, not wanting to give it to her.

"Please. I can't be those things. I won't".

"It will be quick. I promise just please don't let me suffer".

I look back at Shelby and Ghetto, seeing what they had to say about this. They're facial expression said it all, they didn't want me to, but it's her dying wish. I slowly hand her the gun, instantly regretting my choice.

"Thank you. Thank you" she sobs.

"Can I ask one more thing of you?"

I nod my head, it was the only thing I could do. The only action my body allowed me to produce.

The girl took out a picture. It was of a family. The, assumed, mother and father were standing behind three children. The, what looked like, oldest was in the center of the three had her arm wrapped around a pair of boy and girl twins. On the back was a small letter, I didn't have the emotional strength to read it.

"If you ever find the girl in the middle, could you give that to her? Please" the girl asks.

I don't respond for a few seconds, not sure really what to say.

"We will. We'll make sure she gets it" Shelby promises the girl, tears streaming from her eyes.

"We will keep this promise" I reassure her.

"Thank you".

BANG

I'm changed my mind and posting this chapter today. Also I did not mean for this chapter to be like this, but I felt like it was appropriate for the story. I apologize if this made anyone too emotional. I'll make sure to put warnings like this in the chapters.
Peace
