~Beep beep beep~
"Ugh... another day. I don't understand why days exist if they are always so lame" complained Gari slamming off his alarm clock and rolling back under the covers.
His first college semester didn't start for another 4 months because of mix-ups with his college application. For now, the only thing he did was work as a waiter for a big restaurant, saving up every tip he got for college tuition. So far he had saved up more than enough for at least 2 years of schooling but, he wanted to make as much as he could before trying to balance work and school when the semester started.
"Gari!? You have to go to work!!" cried Ana from downstairs.
Anahi Fernandez. They had been best friends since they were little kids. Everything was perfect for them both for so long but one day Gari's father and mother got into a fight and his father ended up accidentally killing her. After realizing what he had done he turned and killed himself. Gari saw everything happen right in front of him and he ran to Ana's house and cried and slept for days while the police officers and crime investigation tried to figure out what had happened. Turns out, the family business had gone bankrupt because they owed another major company a huge loan that they could never pay back.
He was sixteen then. He didn't talk to anyone except his close friends much after that. He lived in the house with Anahi for a few months but later he got an apartment close by to their house and a part time job at an even closer restaurant. Anahi's parents payed for it until he saved up enough money to pay the rent himself. It was mostly because Gari wanted to do it himself.
"I'm going I'm going.." he mumbled back from beneath his pillow. It was a simple apartment. One bedroom and one bathroom with a decent sized kitchen and a living room. The walls and floor were mostly bare. The only wall decoration that was there was his High School Diploma framed on the wall by the front door.
"Olegario!" she hollered again. That was his full first name. Most people just called him Gari.
"Hurry up! Max is gonna kill us if we're late again!" came her voice again sounding urgent but still friendly. She had a way of never sounding angry with him even through all the things Gari had gotten her and his own self into.
Anahi and Gari have best friend since they were kids. They've been practically latched together from before they could even talk and were still close as ever even now. They both went through all of grade school together and both were in the top ten of their graduating class. Somehow Gari had gotten higher than her ranking himself number four at graduation and she was number five. They both decided to go to the same college and study to become accountants for Ana's parents' corporation. While Gari's registration was postponed until the fall semester, Ana figured that she would wait on him too.
Gari managed to throw on his work attire which consisted of a close fitting, neat, black and white collar shirt, black slacks, and black dress shoes. He combed his black and slightly curly hair ruffly before heading downstairs.
"About time!" Ana exclaimed hopping off of the bar stool and grabbing him by the arm. Her medium length brown hair bounced as she grabbed his breakfast of of the counter wrapped in paper towel. "Here's a sandwich and it's the first day of summer! This is when we get most of our work!!"
Her green eyes sparkled with joy. She was a workaholic. She worked harder than anyone else Gari had ever known. And she was definitely the happiest employee at their job. She was like this every morning that they had work and every morning of school. She would always get grouchy when there was nothing to do and Gari would always aggravate her about it and give her menial tasks to around the house. (Usually the chores that Gari did not want to do.)
