I look over at Ryland, my best friend who's been there for as long as I can remember. He's laying in the dew coated grass beside me with his eyes closed. I hear a rustling in the grass, but choose to ignore it.
I sigh, "Do you think dreams can ever become true?" I ask and close my eyes. My heart races as I hold a hand over my heart. My head spins, I can't believe I'm even thinking about telling him I'm in love with him! I've waited years to do this! Tonight is the night!
I can hear the grass move as I assume he is adjusting himself, "That depends. What's the dream?" He asks and I open my eyes. I look over at him with eyes made of love and begin to speak, before he cuts me off. "For instance, I've had a dream where I'm in love with this beautiful girl, and she's in love with me." He smile and winks.
I can feel the heat rise to my cheeks as my heart skips every other beat. My eyes widen, "a-and who is that?" I ask quietly.
"Well..." He starts off. I see all of the color drain from his face as he stare at something behind me. His eyes widen and I can see the lightning bolt of fear striking his mind. His mouth is open as he stutters, "m-mom..." he stutters and slowly starts to get up.
I feel my heart sink. What is going on? What is he talking about? I slightly turn my head and see Ryland's mother standing behind us. Her thick crow black hair waterfalls over her pale skin. She wears her typical white nightgown, but the reflection of her skin is close to the same shade of blinding white. My eyes widen as I watch Ryland walk towards his mother. I'm left speechless as my heart sinks.
"M-mom I'm so sorry..." He mumbles and walks towards her. He places his hand on her tear-struken cheek.
She doesn't say anything as she places her hand on his cheek, then backs away slowly. Her jet black hair and pale skin start to fade away. Ryland cries out for his mother and the last part of her to disappear is her pure white nightgown.
Ryland collapses on the ground, sobbing for his mother. He looks into my eyes, his own carry a lace made of tears and pain. He sniffles, "I guess some dreams really do come true..."
Ryland's mother died 3 years ago.

It means a lot to me :) Anyways, I wanted to try something new with this story (I don't typically write supernatural stuff), so I figured I'd go with a short simple story.
