Chapter One: Ice Cream Makes Everything Better

~Karly~

It was a regular day in my popular life. Nothing made this day special or different from all the rest, just another day in the life of Karly Thomas. I'm only popular because my dad is one of the richest men in the town. Most of my said 'friends' only hang out with me because I'm rich. I don't really mind it. I have my bestfriends and my boyfriend and they're all I really need.

Until I received a text from him. Chris, my boyfriend of three years decided that it would be better for both of us if we took a break and saw new people.

I knew he had been cheating on me with Lauren and he didn't think I knew. Lauren was also one of my 'friends'. She was the cheer captain and I always noticed how she showed him a lot of attention when she cheered at his games. I can't believe them.

My best friend, Sarah, is helping me with my breakup by bringing me my favorite ice cream. Ice cream makes everything better, right?

"I can't believe he would do this to you! Why would he just throw three years down the drain!" Sarah is a tall, pretty blonde with a very straightforward attitude. I, on the other hand, am a shy, short, brunette. We are complete opposites.

"I know, I thought he loved me."

"Hey, stop." She smiled, " I know what can make you feel better. There's a party tonight at Caleb Forrester's house tonight. We can find you someone else." She cooed.

I groaned. I had completely forgot about that party. I was supposed to go with Chris. "I don't know Sarah," I said, "Chris will probably be there."

"That's more of a reason for you to go and find someone else. C'mon, it'll be fun. I promise."

After ten minutes she finally convinced me to go. She walked into my huge walk in closet and picked out a short, purple spaghetti strap dress that I had never worn before. There was a reason for that.

"No, it's way too short." I declared, putting it away.

"No." She cooed, "You have to wear it! You'll look totally hot in it."

I gave her a death look and tried it on. I had to admit, I did look 'totally hot' in it. "I don't know..." I trailed off. It did make my curves look great and it wasn't too short.

"Fine. I'll wear it, but you owe me." I glared.

She squealed and started working on curling my hair. By the time she was done with my hair and makeup, I did look hot.

She stood back to admire her work. "Wow" she breathed, "I am awesome at this!" I hit her even though she was right, and then she put on her dress and straightened her hair.

"Ready?" she asked.

"Yup." I said letting the 'p' pop.

I sent a quick text to Allison, mine and Sarah's bestfriend, telling her where we were going in case she wanted to meet us there. Lately she had been really distant and I worry about her. She doesn't have the best mother, but I usually try to stay out of it. It's not really my place to say anything.

We get into Sarah's car and drive to Caleb's house. He lives in a huge house and you can tell that the party's already started by all the cars there are lined up outside.

We get out and she practically drags me inside. Once we're in there, I see the living room off to the right has been made into a makeshift dance floor, with the furniture pushed to the corners of the room. Sarah gets called to the 'dance floor' and gives me a sympathetic smile as I'm left alone. I jumped and spun around when I felt two hands on my hips to a very drunk Chris.

"Hey babe, how about we get out of here." he slurred.

I jumped away from him and he whined. "Get away from me. We're not together anymore."

"But you look so hot right now and I know an empty bedroom we can go in and get away from everyone." He was really drunk and people were starting to stare.

"Chris, you have to go home. You're really drunk."

"Soo, I just got here." He moved closer to me and grabbed my arm. I pulled away and dragged him to the kitchen, which was thankfully empty.

I reached in my purse and grabbed an aspirin and a bottle of water from the table. "Drink this," I commanded.

I then brought him up to a bedroom and left him. He started calling my name and saying how sorry he was, but I just kept walking. He probably passed out anyway because he didn't follow me.

Once I was back downstairs, I went outside on the patio. I needed some air. I walked out and sighed heavily, after realizing I wasn't alone, I blushed and mumbled sorry to the couple making out. They went inside, the girl swearing under her breath.

The door opened again and I spun around making sure it wasn't Chris. I saw a guy around my age wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans. I'd never seen him before and he was kinda cute. He had dirty blonde hair and green eyes.

He looked at me curiously, "I think you're the only person I've seen at this party that's not drunk."

"You too."

"What's your name," again eyeing me curiously.

"Karly Thomas, yours."

"Kevin Reed. I'm new to the high school here."

"Oh, a new kid." I said laughing.

"Yeah, we move a lot, but I think I'm gonna be here awhile." He said, scratching the back of his neck.

"Oh, well if you ever need anything you can just ask me. I don't bite." I said smiling. That got him to laugh, he had a nice smile and cute dimples.

"Thanks," he said before I went back inside.

I liked him, he wasn't like all the other guys I have talked to, he was sweet.

I found Sarah, still on the 'dance floor' and decided to dance with her. I moved to the center and felt a pair of hands on my hips. I panicked a little thinking it was Chris, but it ended up being Caleb. I didn't mind dancing with him, so I moved my hips to the music with him holding on.

"I heard you're single," he whispered in my ear.

"You heard right," I replied, moving my hips a little faster. I figured that by Monday the whole school will know about our breakup.

I didn't mind, I could expose Chris as the asshole he really is and call out Lauren for being a whore.

The night ended surprisingly well, especially because I didn't see Chris again and because we managed to make it home.

I got home, got changed, and sent a text to Allison. She hadn't answered my first one, so I was a little worried, but I figured if she's in school on Monday then she's fine.

I get in bed and fall asleep, thinking that Chris is probably still passed out in one of the bedrooms and laugh when I think about Caleb finding him in the morning. Oh well, not my problem anymore.
