High-school is supposed to be the best time of your life. I'm here to tell you it's not. When I look back upon it there are somethings that I was happy I did but other things I did that I fully regret. High school is four years of nonstop gossip and homework, but sadly I will not get that time back.

Today was Friday the 13th and I was ready to get out of my math class to go home. The clock read 3:28 but the bell rang at 3:30. Everyone was hypnotized by the clock, waiting for the minute hand to go on the six. I was so fascinated by the time, that I didn't here my name get called, " Alex?" There was a pause and then I heard,
"Alex!" My teacher said.
Everyone took their eyes off the clock, waiting for my answer. I asked in a I-don't-give-a-shit kind of tone, " Ya?"

"Come see me after class."
I heard a few kids say, "oooooo," and other kids didn't give a shit.

" What do you think Alex did this time?" A white boy whispered to his other white friends.

" Probably beat up another kid," a valley-girl declared like she looked me up on Wikipedia.

" She probably wants to turn into a boy," another white boy said.

Since my name is Alex people think that I strive to be a boy. What people don't understand is I don't, I just like the name. It's way better than Alexandra.

" Shut up," a Latina girl said, " she just likes the name."

I was very grateful for her but I sadly didn't know her name. She sat in-front of me, how didn't I notice her before? I tapped her on the shoulder and I said,
"Hey... uhhh...." then the bell rang.
She looked at me and said, " I'm Maggie.... Maggie Sawyer," she took her backpack and left the classroom.

" Thanks...," I mumbled. She didn't here me. She had the prettiest name and she seemed so fascinating. I wanted to be her friend. I wanted to get to know her. I.......

"Alex?!" said the imprudent teacher. I went out of my thoughts and I went up to my teacher, " why do you wanna see me," I said in a monotone voice.

"Your doing super well in this class, you have an A+. I know math is your subject so I wanted to ask if you wanted to tutor kids who need help with math?
It's really a good credit for collage!"

Teach students, blah. It's like teaching Kara how to chew with her mouth closed , it's super hard and impossible to do. But on the other hand it does look good for collage.

" Ya I'll do it!" Alex smiled.
" Okay good!" The teacher smiled, " here is a permission slip. All you need is your Mom and Dad's signature," I froze. I started to get really upset.
" I don't have a dad," I barely whispered.

"Oh, well you don't need your fathers signature, just your moms," she smiled but I could tell she knew I was touchy about the subject.

I took the permission slip and left the classroom. I looked down at the paper and read the whole entire thing. It was only one sentence. It said, " Your son/daughter ______ is aloud to tutor students math during and after school." I rolled my eyes at the sheet of paper and looked up to see Kara right next to my locker. She waited for me everyday, since I was her 'big sister'.
"Hey!" Kara said with a smile, " what's that sheet of paper?"

"It's a permission slip for me to tutor kids who need help with math."

"Can I see it?" Kara asked.

I gave Kara the piece of paper and while she read it I was getting my books from my locker. When she was done all she said was, " sounds like fun!"

"Ehhh," I truthfully said.

"What's wrong with it?" Kara questioned

"Nothing..." I chose not to answer the question because Kara would get offended for me not wanting to help people.

At dinner it was quieter than usual. Four plates were out for all of us and Elisa was just looking at the empty plate next to her. She was sad about Dad. Kara always says it's good that we still have a plate for Jeremiah but I honestly think that plate makes Mom and I insane.

" Guess what Mom?" Kara said with delight, " I got an A+ on my paper in English!"

Eliza took her eyes off the plate and then smiled, " That's amazing honey!"

Kara smiled and then started eating. I could tell Kara was satisfied for the day.

"What's one good thing that happened to you today?" Elisa asked, looking right at me."

"Nothing really," I said with no emotion.

" Tell Elisa about the thing," Kara said to me.

" what thing?"

"You know what I'm talking about," Kara implied.

"Stop with that, I don't know what your talking about. Be more specific."

Kara came up to my ear and whispered, " about math tutoring."

"Oh well you could of said that." I implied

"Sorry."

"Anyways," Alex said, " I guess the one good thing today is that my math teacher asked me to tutor kids that need help."

"Oh honey, that's amazing!!!"

Every single mom in the universe always over exaggerates when their kid does something 'amazing,' aka something that will impress other parents.

" When do you start tutoring???" My Mom asked.

"Pretty sure tomorrow," I guessed, " Hey Mom can you sign this so I can tutor?" I took the piece of paper out of my pocket and unfolded it for my mom to see what it read.

" Honey of course." She took a pen out of her pocket and signed the piece of paper with her cursive handwriting. I never understood why she kept a pen in her pocket, I guess I will never know. Mom froze for a second, her hand started shaking but then she pretended she never freaked out and she handed me the piece of paper. I never knew what she was freaking out about but it wasn't until years later I figured out she froze up at the words, "Dads signature."

"Thanks," I said and I put the slip back into my pocket. This was the first time in a while Mom and I didn't bicker at the dinner table. I gotta admit it was kinda nice.

The next morning, I went into my math class to turn in the slip. "Here's the slip," I told my teacher as I handed her the piece of paper.

"Thank you," She took the piece of paper from me and put it on her desk.

" Can you come in during study hall and I will tell you know your tutoring?"

"Ya of course." And that's exactly what I did, I came in during study hall and some tutors were there and some students were there. My teacher was very thorough on who she picked for partners. I was really nervous on who I was gonna get since this could effect on how bad tutoring was gonna be.

Finally my teacher called my name, "Alex, Your gonna pair up with Maggie Sawyer."

Maggie came up to me and she said, " Hey Danvers."
