Chapter 14 – Flashbacks.
A/N: Finally, the chapter you’ve all been waiting for – you can find out what happened to her!
Flopping down on a couch, I sighed.
“One week since everything started,” I noted.
We were at another safehouse, which was two hours away from where we had found Angel. In case you’re wondering, it’s now seven pm; we woke up at like seven, found Angel at about eleven or twelve, and then came here. And slept, but then I heard Mia attacking El over lollipops (they never learn) so I woke up.
“Oh yeah, that reminds me,” Mia said. I knew what was coming.
“Mia,” I started.
“No! You owe me an explanation Rebecca. You drag me off in the middle of the night, I don’t get to say goodbye to my mum or anyone, we almost get killed at your house, you suddenly have freaking ninja abilities and guns and shit, you can drive, I can drive, there are safehouses, shout outs at K-Mart, car chases, we meet some and live with some psychopath, we see Harry bloody Styles, the crazy chick storms off and we all have tons of near death moments. What is going on? I need to know!”
Yep, that pretty much sums up the past week. Hang on - whoa. She’s serious. Rebecca; swearing; yelling.
“First,” I said. “Angel wasn’t my fault.”
“Becky!” She slapped me. I knew I shouldn’t have let her and Angel hang out alone. They probably shared slapping techniques or something.
“Ouch.” I stared at her and sighed. “Sit down, I’ll call the girls and tell you what I can. Lily, Eleanora!”
“No,” Miz replied. “You will tell us everything. None of this “what I can” rubbish anymore. We need to know. Everything. Full stop.”
I nodded and sank down onto an armchair, defeated.
Lil and El came running in, and sat down when they saw we were being serious.
Remembering this would be fun. Note the sarcasm.
“Three days after my sixth birthday,” I started.
*FLASHBACK
I was little again, just turned six. It was May 13, a Friday. Black Friday. The bullies at school were at it again, and I was crying as I ran. They were all jealous that I was smart; sixth and seventh graders were jealous of a first grader! I left the school grounds, and still they chased me. Trying to head for a coffee shop I knew, I was almost blinded by tears, and took a wrong turn down a small alleyway.
Glancing up, I saw a guy who looked about twenty five in sunglasses and a suit head down the alley in front of me, and turn left. I followed him, luckily ahead of the bullies. I hid behind a trashcan, still undetected by the man.
My tormentors weren’t sure of where I had gone; and I saw the guy tap on the wall.
I inched towards him, and he stepped through the wall. I followed, just looking for a place to hide and being a bit curious, and managed to slip through the gap behind him.
I saw him turn a corner and tailed him, still undetected; occasionally he looked behind him, but I shrunk back or hid somewhere. We entered a maze, but I didn’t manage to get through the entrance quick enough. Counting to a hundred, I waited until I thought he was a safe distance away, and then looked at the electronic key screen. It was a riddle. ‘Easy’ I thought ‘I love riddles’
