The next day, Jack woke up early to go to school. Like schools outside Minecraft, Peacepeople didn't tolerate latecomers—and among those usual latecomers were Jack, who, surprisingly, got up early today.

"You're up early," her mother commented.

"Bye, Mom," Jack just said, stuffing her mouth with a bowl of boiled potatoes that went cold. Then, she left.

"Jack! Take Annie with you!" her mother shouted, but Jack was too far off. She sighed. "Dear, please drop Annie off to Peacepeople Elementary, okay?"

"Okay," Jack's father said, shaking his head at his daughter. "When will Jack ever learn?"

They had boring classes, like Farming Basics, Survival Without Weaponry, and Making Use Of Water. But Jack loved her special courses, like Secret Uses Of Seemingly Useless Things, and, above all, Guide Of Myths. Guide Of Myths, or GOM, was her favorite subject, and she still remembers that day when she first had a lesson with it.

"This is a ghast," said her teacher that time. "It is said to be found in the Nether—a place forbidden to the Overworld, and practically inaccessible, too."

Curious, Jack raised her hand to ask a question. "If the Nether can't be accessed, how do you even know there's such thing as a ghast, sir?"

"OOOOH. BURRRRRRN."

"Ssh," their teacher said, silencing the class. "Ms. Jacklin, I don't know if there's a ghast or not. These are just stories spread by people outside Peacepeople who claim they've visited the Nether. We, of course, are not sure if it's reliable, and that's why we consider it a myth."

"But if so many people tell stories about it, why conclude it's a myth? Why don't you just research on whether they're telling facts or not? Because really, there's a big chance they're telling the truth if different people say the same stories."

The teacher's face went red in anger. "Because the Nether is only accessible through death! Only a terrible person who died can go to the Nether! In other words, if you don't quit asking nonsense that could potentially lead to your classmates gaining unnecessary doubt on the credibility of our topic, you'll be seeing the Nether pretty soon!"

"And I'll be meeting you there!" Jack said, sitting back down and pretending to write down in her notebook, though she just drew squiggles.

And ironically, that teacher is now her best friend because of that same incident, when the teacher doubted the credibility of his lesson as well.

"Sir Mart!" Jack greeted her teacher, who was walking down the hallway.

Mart grinned. "Jack! I guess I'll be seeing you in GOM later on."

"Guess so," Jack said, going to her class. It was called Structures And Foundations, and they were basically just reviewing their old lessons for the upcoming exams.

"It's always wise to build a house into a cliff face if you're caught near night," her teacher said. Though the teacher was cheery, Jack felt super bored. "Make sure to collect the blocks you break as well. You can use it to expand your house over time, who knows?"

"As if I didn't know that," Jack grumbled.

Jack was the library's number one customer. She was a voracious reader. She read, read, and read, until she knew more about the world outside Peacepeople than she did about her own village. That said, Jack knew these survival skills before they could even be part of the curriculum.

After her first class, Jack met up with Gigi at the lockers. As always, Gigi was busy promoting her cause: protect the salmon.

"Salmon are becoming highly endangered," she lectured to a group of freshmen. "As such, we should—hey!"
