Jazmine's POV

I awoke to the sound of my mom getting ready for work, as she did every morning. Looking over at my clock, I  realized I was going to be late for school. I jumoed out of my bed, rushed to my dresser and put on my favorite pair of black ripped jeans and Purple t-shirt, followed by my black and white converse. I ran to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and did my hair. I hurried down the stairs and grabbed my backpack and phone. I hadn't even gotten one foot out the door and my mom had already started yelling at me. I simply ignored her, as usual, and rushed out the door.

Everyone would be in third hour by now. I've never been late before, but I was dreading walking into the classroom. Once I finally reached the school I started to calm down and breathe. That is, until I realized that I have to present a project in Science today with Zoey. I have the biggest crush on her, but I'm too awkward to be around her, let alone be her friend. I walked into the classroom and as I walked to my seat answering the usual questions, such as "why are you late?" and "Where were you?" I felt all eyes on me. I didn't have the courage to even look up at my friends. I kept my gaze towards my feet, occasionally glancing up to take notes. Then I heard the words I'd been dreading all morning. "Alright, everyone, it's time for your presentations."

I felt someone sit down in the seat next to me and tensed up instantly. "Hey Jazmin," her voice flooded my ears and I felt like I was drowning and flying all at once, "are you ready?" I smiled and nodded in response, not trusting my own voice. "Great!". But I wasn't ready. The teacher, Mr. Ells, started naming off pairs to present. I heard my best friend Mary's name get called, followed by some other guy's name; Lucas or something stupid like that. Knowing Mary, this would be great. I looked up to see that Lucas was in a plant costume.

By the end of their presentation, the entire class (including Mr. Ells) was cringing so hard that I thought their faces would cave in. They were told them to go back to their seats, receiving a slow clap from the class. Then, I heard Zoey's name, followed by my own. I got up, my knees threatening to give out as I walked to the front of the class and faced everyone. I already knew I was going to stutter, I always did when I was nervous. Anyone who's close to me would know that. I started the presentation, my stutter very clear. "Th..th-the hypothesis w-we came up with for o-our project... w-was that..." I looked over at Zoey for support and she continued my sentence flawlessly. She really is an amazing girl. She finished the presentation and we walked back to our seats, her taking cool, calm strides while I make small, hesitant steps.

The bell rang a few minutes after our presentation. I followed my usual routine of getting the hell out of the classroom and headed to my fourth hour. I sighed. Could this day get any worse?

Just as I suspected, it got much, much worse.

Le suspense 😉
