Chapter 10
I woke up to the buzzing of my alarm clock and the thunder outside.
UGHH! I groaned as I realized that it was pouring outside!!!! How annoying.
I got freshened up and pulled on some sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I wore converse and a messy side braid. Again, no makeup except for moisturizer and baby lips. I loved this outfit. Comfy yet cute ;P and easy to wear!! http://www.polyvore.com/m/set?.embedder=7967768&.svc=copypaste&id=120698684
'Jade lets go!' I heard Jen screech. Couldn't one morning go by without her yelling at me? Where does she even get the energy to yell at me from?? I was a zombie in the morning -.-
I pulled on my varsity jacket and darted down the stairs two steps at a time and scooped up the pop tart from the kitchen table.
'Bye honey!' Mom called out after us as we rushed out the door and to the bus stop. I glanced back and waved, but then I wasn't watching where I was going and stumbled. ( I'm clumsy)
But nick caught me. I looked up at him and he pulled me to stand straight.
I didn't want this to be a mushy moment, so I grinned and squealed 'gracias!!!'
He laughed and I wiggled out of his arms, which made his smile fade just a tiny bit.
'You guys r clearly in love and it's gross because it's u' Jen mumbled to me. I rolled my eyes and was about to respond when the bus loudly screeched to a halt right in front of us. I cringed at the awful sound and Jen groaned, but nick didn't seem to be bothered by it! I wondered how such terrible, loud sounds don't bother him as I climbed onto the crowded bus. Once I was comfy in my seat, I put on my headphones and happily listened to some songs (The A Team by Ed Sheeran, Half a Heart by One Direction, and All of Me by John Legend. I swear that's the 'best song ever' .. Get it? 😏)
Anyway, we arrived at school and smack in the middle of first period language arts I realized that I hadn't asked nick about the nurse's office or how he was feeling and stuff. Shoot. Stupid me, what type of friend am I?
I sneezed and received a bunch of 'bless you's from everyone in my class except Hunter and obviously the witch sluts. I was surprised that Hunter didn't though.... Kinda rude. But whatever. I can't judge by such a little thing.
'As I mentioned yesterday, today we will be writing a research essay. You should collect your data and finish your research by Thursday. We will start writing that day, and the essay will be due on Monday. Does everyone understand?' Mrs. Jowskini loudly questioned, pacing around the room to see if we were paying attention. We all nodded. Well, most of us. I turned to my right, and a couple of seats down from me, Hunter popped a piece of gum loudly.
This wasn't good. At all. Mrs. Jowskini was a very strict teacher who did not tolerate any nonsense or gum-chewing or answering back or anything else she considered 'bad'.
She stomped up to Hunter's desk and quietly, scarily demanded, 'Mr. Lockhart. Just what doing you think you are doing?!'
He stared up at her with a clear look of boredom and... Amusement... In his eyes.
'Awww ya know.. Just chillin. Waiting till this class is over and stuff. Thinking about my girl' he smirked, winking at Rachel, who giggled.
Mrs. Jowinski spun around to glare Rachel.
'Well...' The eerily calm teacher started, 'that's great. To know that you're just chilling. Go spit your gum out. Now.'
Hunter scoffed and retorted, 'don't tell me what to do, woman.'
My eyes nearly popped out of my head. How could Hunter be so disrespectful?!
Now Mrs. Jowinski had had it! She leaned onto Hunter's desk, close to his face, and hissed, 'well since you seem so fine with chilling in my classroom now, I'm sure you won't mind having detention right here today at 2:30 sharp.'
Hunter burst out laughing, and Mrs. Jowinski narrowed her eyes.
'What' she spat, losing her patience.
'Hah...' Hunter wiped a tear from his eye and loudly said, 'I don't care about some stupid detention. But sure, I'll come.'
Rachel giggled. I could've died from shock. What the heck?!
Just then the bell rang. No one dared to get up out of their seat though.
Mrs. Jowinski slowly turned to face Rachel and leaned close to her face, which looked like a scared puppy's now.
'DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?!?! BOTH OF YOU HAVE DETENTION FOR THE NEXT MONTH, AND TEN POINTS OFF YOUR ESSAY, AND I'M SURE YOUR PARENTS WILL BE very GLAD TO BE INFORMED OF YOUR BEHAVIOR TODAY!'
She stood up, straightened her skirt, and looked to the rest of the class. 'You are now dismissed, class. I'm sorry you had to see that.'
We all silently got up, except for Rachel.
Hunter stood up and strolled out of the classroom as if nothing had happened. Mike stood up and just stayed there, staring at me. But he was quickly pulled away by Cassidy and Laura (Nicole wasn't in this class). I clenched my jaw. Wait... Was I jealous? No need to be jealous if he's not even my boyfriend.. He's not even my crush! I don't even have a crush! What is going on?!
I gathered my books and stomped up to Rachel, who was silently crying in her seat. I patted her back and bent down and whispered, 'hey... It's ok. I mean, ten points isn't THAT bad, is it? You normally get 95-100, so the worst you could get is an 85, which isn't even bad. And the detention... I'm sure a month will pass by sooner than you can imagine. And I'll be here for you, waiting. And your parents... Well... ' I didn't know what to say to comfort her. So I just said what was on my mind.......... 'Why'd you laugh though..? Why'd you support hunter? And like, I don't know about him. I know he's nice and all but Rachel, don't let him influence you in a bad way. Please.'
She immediately stopped crying and I was surprised to see that she was glaring at me. Her eyes were blazing with fire.
'Oh shut up, jade. Hunter is so not a bad influence, and he's really nice, and you're just jealous because no one likes you. But you know what, my life isn't as perfect as it seems, and this is really hard for me, so just back off okay?'
I was taken aback by her harsh words. Slowly, I nodded. I nodded again and again and again and then I realized how late I was to my social studies class. Shoot.
I nodded once more, not knowing what to say, and sprinted to social studies. Mr. Ross. I ducked into my seat. The seat next to me was empty because Rachel wasn't here yet. I didn't really mind..
About a minute later, the bell rang, and Mr. Ross walked up to the front of the class. Fiddling with his mustache (he looks like 👨), he starting lecturing us about Pearl Harbor, and how it got bombed on December 7th, which was today.
I zoned out and doodled all across my notebook, snapping to attention when he mentioned our homework. It was a group project on Pearl Harbor. He assigned groups and mine was pretty okay... It was Mia, Caroline, me, and ... Wow what a weird coincidence (😑) ... Mike.
The project was due next Wednesday (today was Tuesday). The bell rang, and I rushed to Caroline's desk.
'Hey' I exclaimed, 'we're working together!! How awesome!!'
'Very!!' She replied, and we laughed.
Suddenly I remembered her giving me her number yesterday... Telling me to text her. I forgot!!
'Shoot. I'm so so sorry' I face palmed myself and glanced at Caroline, who looked very confused.
'What.. Why are you sorry, jade?'
I sighed in relief but guilt still filled me up to the brim. 'Because..' I slowly answered, 'I forgot to text you last night. I'm so so so sorry'
Caroline burst out laughing. 'Sorry!?' She squeaked through laughs, and she threw her head back laughing, which was pretty dangerous because we were now walking to our lockers and she wasn't watching where she was going. She bumped into about 7 or so kids.
I nudged her, and she finally beamed at me. 'It's okay jade!! Why would u think I'd be so sensitive about such a thing? Dude it's honestly fine'
I grinned back at her, but then we had to go our separate ways to our lockers.
'Meet me at my locker' she called.
'Of course!' I replied happily😄 In fact, the song Happily by One Direction was stuck in my head. I shoved my stuff into my locker and grabbed my lunch money. I headed towards Caroline's locker, and on my way there, I accidentally bumped into Rachel, who was sulking like it was the end of the world. I just looked at her, and she returned the stare. I didn't know what to say to her, so I didn't say anything. I was so worried about her.
But I couldn't let that bother me. So I skipped towards Caroline and beamed at her, and we headed towards the cafeteria. I could hear the pitter patter of the pouring rain pounding on the windows. It was so loud.
We entered the cafeteria and were straight away kicked out by the head of some club. It was a guy named Colin. We had social studies and Spanish together! He wore jeans and a t-shirt with Nike sneakers. His hair was curly brown and his eyes were green with a hint of orange in the middle, and his glasses made them look real good. But his eyes were on fire right now. He was furious.
'Uhm... What was that for?' Caroline demanded.
Colin rolled his eyes at us. What an attitude! -.- He said in a duh-tone, 'well obviously you girls aren't allowed here. Didn't you hear? There's an emergency assembly going on in the auditorium. I was chosen to guide people like you to their correct destination. You see, I am the head of the organization and teachers helper club. I am also -'
Caroline held up her hand to shut him up. 'Yeah yeah' she snorted, 'That's great. The head of the teachers pet club.'
Colin gasped and corrected her, 'teachers HELPER club!'
'Same thing' I peeped in.
'Yeah. And just so you know, mr. Teachers pet or helper guy, my Correct destination is the cafeteria, or anywhere I can eat, because I am starving. But thanks. And bye'
Caroline smiled at the end and walked away. It took me a moment to find out that she's already half way down the hall towards the courtyard. I ran up to catch up to her.
'Where are we going?!' I questioned, trying to pull her to a stop, which was really hard since she's taller than me and I'm so petite.
'The courtyard' Caroline replied matter-of-factly, and continued strolling away.
'Whaaat!' I squeaked, 'we can't go there! We have to go to the auditorium... For the assembly remember?'
'But I'm hunggrryyy!!' Caroline answered, and placed her hands on her hips as if it was the best reason ever.
I glanced around, thinking about it. I bet if we skipped the assembly and headed outside it wouldn't matter. I mean, we're on school grounds, and we're supposed to be eating at this time on a normal day anyway... So I nodded my head.
'But lemme go get my jacket' I dashed to my locker to get it and got back to Caroline in less than 2 minutes. She had timed me. Hehe.
We walked out into the pouring rain and darted under an umbrella table so we could stay dry and eat... But then we saw something that made my heart skip a best, or even three...
