You pulled your coat closer to your body as a gust of cold, bitter wind blew around you, kicking up the autumn leaves and creating whrilwinds of red, orange and yellow as you walked along the damp sidewalk towards your destination; Pop's.
You were new to the town of Riverdale but you'd been dying to check out the retro-looking diner since you arrived - which was yesterday. Within minutes you reached Pop's and sighed in content as you stepped out of the frosty autumn weather and into the toasty warmth of the diner, your hands fumbling to unbutton your coat and unravel the scarf from around your neck as your eyes scanned the place.
Scarlet booths lined the walls, leaving just enough room in between for people to walk up and down the isle, neon signs were dotted around, much like the large one outside spelling out Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe and a large red counter stood before me, behind which was an older-looking man with dark skin and grey hair who you hoped was as friendly as he looked.
The diner was remarkably quiet considering it was quite late in the evening on a week night, but it wasn't completely dead and there was one booth that caught your eye. It was occupied by a boy who looked about your age. He had pale skin and a mess of black hair, most of which was hidden beneath a grey beanie that appeared to be in the shape of a crown. A laptop was perched in front of him and he seemed to be in his own little world as he punched away at the keyboard, clearly engrossed in whatever he was doing.
After gawking at this mystery boy for a minute or so, you pulled yourself out of your own daydream and finally made your way over to the counter, where you ordered a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream and a cherry and learnt that the old man, Pop, was in fact as friendly as he looked, freindlier even.
"Thank you." You smiled kindly as he handed you your milkshake and you took it before going to find somewhere to sit. As you made your way down the isle, your phone buzzed with a text message from your mom and you were stupid enough to look at it there and then, rather than waiting until you were sat down like any sensible person would.
While this was happening, the boy with the beanie was getting up from his booth in order to go and order himself another drink. And that's when it happened. You were as clumsy as a newborn fawn on ice anyway, but when you had your nose in your phone and weren't looking where you were going, it was even worse and you ended up tripping over as chair leg. You were sent to the ground with a thud, your milkshake flying out of your hand and spilling all over the boy before the glass smashed on the floor.
Instead of getting mad and yelling at you, he surprised you by walking over and holding his hand out for you.
"Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?" He asked as he helped you up.
You smiled at his concern despite being a complete stranger as you dusted yourself off, "I'm fine, are you okay? I'm so sorry, I completely ruined your jacket." You stared at his pink-stained leather jacket with guilt and sorrow.
"Don't worry about it, there are more important things than clothes. You could've broken a bone or something."
"Well, it's my own stupid fault for not looking where I was going," You rolled your eyes at yourself and the boy chuckled, the sound of his laugh making you smile, "Seriously, I'm really sorry. I'll buy you a new jacket."
"How about we start by buying you another milkshake?" He suggested with a half smirk that only made him look more attractive.
"Okay, but there's no way you're paying for it." You said sternly, fishing out some money.
The boy let his smirk turn into a smile as he stuck out his hand, "Jughead Jones the third."
"Y/N Y/L/N." You giggled, accepting his handshake as you looked up, meeting his eyes for the first time. They were a gorgeous, blue-green colour that reminded you of the ocean.
"So, about that drink?" You didn't realise you'd been staring at him until he spoke, shooting you a smirk and a raised eyebrow as you turned a shade of pink.
"Uh, y-yeah, that drink. Let's go."
