Chapter Three

-

I walk silently through the hall, head down, hurrying to my class. I've been avoiding all of my friends, and I feel really bad. But I've been so absorbed in seeing Rik like that yesterday...

I stroll into class. First one here, I cheer mentally.

As I space out, I vaguely see a dark hooded figure come and sit next to me in the back of the classroom.

"I see my choice of clothing is catching on," I hear a deep voice say, and I snap out of my trance.

"I didn't have time to dress today," I snap at Rik.

He takes off his hood and I refrain from gasping like I can't breathe.

His eyes. His eyes are so blue, they can't be real. They seem to change color, dark blue, light blue, ice blue..and his right iris...

It has a tiny sliver of green.

His eyes were so transfixing, I think I was gaping at him.

He handed me a neatly folded piece of paper.

It read: Take a picture. It lasts longer.

That stuck-up asshole!

I sent daggers thorugh his head, as he put his hood back on nonchalantly.

-

I was currently walking towards my car. Well, until I felt a presence next to me.

"I don't have a ride."

"And?"

"I need a ride, please," Rik says, his voice sounding so monotonous that there's a fleeting moment where I think I'm talking to a robot.

"Fine, get in quickly," I say quietly. I'm suddenly realizing the attention we're getting. And then I'm struck by another realization.

Why is Rik, who never talks, suddenly talking to me?

I shove him into the car before hurriedly rushing to the driver's side.

Putting the car into reverse and driving out of the school grounds slowly, Rik pulls his sweatshirt off his body, and I can't help the squeak that comes out of my mouth.

I am switching between watching the road and watching Rik, and despite the close proximities to Rik, It's not an easy feat.

He has the most amazing...everything. A perfectly shaped nose, his hair is messy and is carelessy brushed to one side, his lips are so full, his abs and six-pack so defined.

His arms are muscular, too, but not to the point where it gets exaggerated.

"Take a picture, it lasts longer."

I snap out of it. "Why does that seem like your go-to saying?" I ask.

"Because it's true, most of the time." He turns around and I look down at the road, even though I feel his eyes on me.

I can't afford to be distracted by him. It would destroy my reputation at school. He's a nobody, and I'm the average high schooler.

I mentally curse myself. All I can think of is my reputation? That's the stupidest shit ever. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and focus back on the road.

"Turn right," Rik says evenly as we reach 137th St SE.

I look at him, "You think I don't know that?"

He shrugs and looks up, closing his eyes.

I sigh softly.

-

"It's the house on the-"

"I know," I snap. Everyone know each other in this small town; there's no way in hell that I'd forget where he lives. Everyone knows where everyone lives.

"No need to get defensive," Rik says silently, opening the door.

"Wait.." I start, but then stop myself. I felt a need to be with him, even if it was for a little longer. Something's wrong with me.

Even if we spend a few minutes in silence, I want him to be with me.

"Yeah?" He says, not even bothering to look back.

"Never mind," I say, nearly inaudibly.
