Akira was working part time at a café, just to survive, and Kaira who
was stopping in for some tea and a quiet place to read. The connection
of his crimson, and her hazel eyes was a powerful one. Akira was the
first to break the silence, “How may I help you...?” he struggled to get
out. Her voice was soft and soothing, “I’d like a cup of the house blend
Tea please.” Akira gave her a nod and walked back to grab her drink. He
was completely overtaken by her, and as he prepared her tea he
couldn’t help but smile. After finishing her tea, he turned to see her
rummaging through her bag, soon pulling out a copy of a book of short
poems he knew well. The book wasn’t a particularly popular one, but
he loved it and as he stepped forward he said quietly, “Page 14…” She
glanced up at him a bit confused, soon realizing what he meant. She
flipped to page 14 and started to look at it, and Akira began to recite.
It was once suggested to me
To take a deep breath
And let it all go…
So I nodded and decided to try
Oxygen swept into my lungs
My chest expanded
But I just couldn’t exhale
I couldn’t let you go.
Kaira smiled as Akira spoke. “Chrissie Pinney…she did great with that
poem.” Akira had read the poem multiple times, and loved it. She paid
for her drink, “Thank you very much.” She smiled at him and started to
walk away, but Akira said something to make her stop. “Im Akira by the
way.” She turned and smiled at him, “Im Kaira.” Akira took a moment
taking in the beauty of her name. “H-Hey…at the risk of sounding like a
creep, do you wanna hang out sometime?” Akira was horrible with girls and dating, so he was very surprised when she agreed. “I don’t
normally go out with strangers, but anyone who likes poems can’t be
that bad.” She said to tease him before she pointed to the counter, he
looked down at a small cared that had a phone number on it. Akira
picked it up and smiled, soon looking up to smile but when he did she
was gone. He smiled and chuckled, putting the card in his pocket. He
knew he just met an interesting girl, and he couldn’t be more ecstatic.
