Everything seemed to happen all at once. First, Jack felt herself falling, then she got wrapped in darkness, then her entire body hurt. Believe her, that first phase sucked. Next, she felt nothing, and she was drifting in an empty space. That part sucked less.

But the part that brightened her spirits was when she finally opened her eyes again—but to her horror, she can't move, breathe, or see.

She blinked for a while, trying to recall what happened. 'Okay,' she said in her thoughts. 'What happened? We were doing that salmon campaign...Gigi got potatoes...then the watchtower...creepers!'

Now she knew where she was. 'I am blocking stuck under the debris of the tower. Amazing."

She found no hole or gap to breathe it, so she settled for trying to lift the bits around her. Surprisingly, the one at the top easily lifted. She would later realize that was because it was the door of the watchtower, still on its hinges. But what she saw outside the debris made her think the waking-up phase sucked worse than the unconscious phase.

All around her, there were ruins. The bodies were gone, sparing her form a bloody sight. They evaporated, slowly from the head to the toes, like all creatures who died in Minecraft. She slowly rose up, and quickly realized a body was still there, and it was alive and sitting on the ruins.

"Sir Mart?" Jack said, getting up.

The said man looked her way. True enough, it was him, but he had a horrified look on his face. "They're gone...every single one of them..."

"Sir, I'm so glad you're okay," Jack said. After that scary incident, anyone would be glad to see anyone's okay.

"I was sent out for a mining expedition that time. I had no idea what will happen last night..."

"YOU'RE A MINER?!" Jack said quickly, forgetting about the ruins around them. "You can go in and out of Peacepeople all this time?"

"I haven't really gone too far," he said. "Just to a nearby cave. But now I'm considering living in that cave and never leaving my whole life."

Jack looked around. She knew what he meant, as she realized her family was gone as well. Her stomach burned and bubbled in anger. "Creepers...destroyed Peacepeople...why? We haven't had a single reason for them to bomb us!"

"Because creepers explode when they're near someone," Mart explained. "But I don't know how they got all the way to Peacepeople. Creepers nearly never spawn near Peacepeople, and in such large numbers!"

"That doesn't matter."

Both were shocked as they looked to the side. There, Jack was relieved to find Gigi, Jace, and Lace, though the latter two was carrying Gigi, who was unconscious. "I'm so glad you're all safe."

"The watchtower was perfect to hide in," Jace said, ignoring the scratches and wounds all over him. Jack realized she may have a lot of scratches and wounds on her too, but she worried more about the situation. "We can't sit around here sulking, can we? We have to do something."

"What do you propose we do?" Mart said, still unable to think clear from the shock.

They seemed to think for a while. Then Jack said, "Let's rummage whatever remains in the village. Food, armor, weapons—anything we can use for our journey."

Everyone looked at her. "Journey?!"

"Sir Mart's right. Creepers spawn near the Cane River, and that's so so far from here. Something's wrong, and sitting around here would make us easier targets," Jack explained.

No one said any more. Jace remained by the ruins of the tower to watch over Gigi, while the rest looked for things they can use. They started when it was hardly past sunrise. It was near noon when they finished. They joined Jace and shared him some food for lunch.

"Gigi's waking up," Lace said, and everyone looked at her.

"Oh my plot, you got us worried!" Jack cried, wrapping her arms around her.

Gigi coughed, her eyes scanning her surroundings. Seeing the state of the village, she shrieked, moving back and breathing heavily. "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VILLAGE?!"

They quietly looked at Gigi, who steadied her breathing, trying hard to remember. When she did, she slowly calmed down, accepting a piece of pork chop offered to her. She hung her head, sniffling.

Little did she know, everyone else was holding back their tears. Fear of what lies ahead took over. They had no home, no family, no hope.

But Jack had plans. Lots of plans. All that reading paid off. She stood up and faced her companions. "We should stop doing nothing! It's a waste of time. After this, we are immediately journeying to the Cane River. It's a long way from here, but we'll make it."

Gigi frowned. "Why go to the Cane River?"

Jack explained her plan more thoroughly. "We must go to the Cane River and make a stable hiding spot. We have to monitor what's happening, and how much creepers are spawned each time. How much mobs, in general, spawn there."

"And then?" Lace asked.

Jack thought for a moment. Then she looked at them, determination glowing in her eyes. "We'll rebuild Peacepeople—all by ourselves. And make sure it'll be more secured than before, but at the same time allowing every citizen more freedom."

After eating, the group shared the armor they found. All were iron. They had stone sword and a complete set of stone tools, with food, a bed, and chests. Minecraft had a weird system: you repeatedly hit something until it cracks and turns into a miniature version of itself, which can neatly fit in your pockets.

They went out of the ruins, and each took a sunflower to place there. Then, using a stick, Gigi began to write on the ground.

IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE PEOPLE OF PEACEPEOPLE VILLAGE

"Good-bye," Jack whispered, leading the way out of the village. She felt extreme sadness, along with extreme excitement: they were actually exiting Peacepeople!

"I know that tree," Mart suddenly said. "The Cane River is to the right of that."

Jack nodded, though she already knew that. They walked in that direction. Along the way they encountered some sheep and pigs. The wide plain area was relieving. If any mob would dare to go near them, they'll be seen too easily.

"Look, a cow!" Lace said, pointing at the brown cow not too far. It's the first they've seen for quite a while. "We'll need the leather—and meat. It'll be important to our journey."

Jack nodded nervously. "I'm not used to hunting...and I don't like hurting..."

"Allow me," Mart said, running after the cow. It mooed and ran away.

At one point, Mart swished his sword just enough to graze the hind legs of the cow. Bits of blood sprinkled a bit. Jack yelped and looked down, unable to bear the sighting of another creature dying after she just saw her whole village die.

Later, she heard a resonating MOOOO! She looked up, just in time to see the cow's legs slowly evaporate into white smoke. Mart picked up and pocketed the miniature meat and miniature leather icons.

The four clapped. "Amazing!" Jace said.

Mart grinned. "Being a miner means learning to be a hunter. Come on, let's go."
