She woke up early in the morning. Her husband, the king, was still asleep.
The queen got up and opened the window that headed to a much more smaller balcony that the one where they used to release the lanterns, the same balcony that woman had used to kidnap their baby.
The early morning wind was cool and she shivered because she was still wearing her light night gown.
She rested her fine hands on the stone rail and took a deep breath while she looked farther , farther the castle gates, farther the town she ruled, farther the harbor. Her gaze rested lightly on the forest, far away.
It was a small and tiny green dot but she could see it perfectly.
She thanked the villagers for finding the flower but it just wasn't fair that she barely cradled her.
She smiled remembering the moment. The thought was sad but beautiful at the same time.
She knew the day would come, the day when she finally met her Rapunzel again.
Her sight grew dimmer due to the tears that started filling her emerald green eyes. She wiped them away.
"Jack!" She turned to face her withe haired friend and tried to wear her best eager pitch on her voice but it failed somewhere because Jack, who sat on the rail with his feet hovering down, was seeing her with a concern expression.
"What's wrong?" He asked with truly intrigue and care
She shook her head and sob. "Nothing" she replied with a shy smile.
Jack cocked an eyebrow but immediately knew what was wrong with her. Rapunzel, again.
"Rapunzel" he sighed
She couldn't handle the tears any long and let them stream down.
Jack hugged her and could feel how she slightly shivered but she didn't mind.
"I-it's ju... Just that... She will be turning eighteen in four days and... Well I... I" she didn't finish the sentence because her core betrayed her.
It was true. Jack barely had thought about it. It had been almost a year since he last saw Rapunzel. Since she got mad at him.
He sighed and caress her friends' brunette hair. Even though many years had passed since he met her, she was still as sensitive and caring as when she first saw him.
He remembered he was having a good time playing jokes to the villagers when he saw her. A small brunette girl that barely reached the age of 8 staring from her window. She wasn't a queen then, nor a princess. She was just another girl that wanted fun.
His eyes first settled in her doe like ones. They were full of wonder and hope, just like Rapunzel's. A hope that still remain in them though the time.
"Who are you?" She had asked. She could see him. Since then Jack had been friends with her for many years; until one day she met the prince and got married.
Now that girl had grown up and she was crying in his arms because of her lost daughter.
He hated to see her like that but he knew he couldn't tell her. Manny had told him he couldn't.
Now, why should he follow what Manny said?
"She's... She's okay" he said finally struggling with himself inside.
The queen's eyes wide open and she released from the hug.
"You know where she is?"
He opened his mouth but closed it again.
