As I sat in the chair beside her bed, my mind reviewed the events of the past few weeks. Kayla saw things before I did and had risked her life to save me. I shifted the paper bag in my arms and waited.
✨✨✨✨✨
“Hey,” said a sleepy voice from under the covers.
I put the bag on the table, got down on my knees and hugged my best friend.
I’m not sure who started crying first, but we cried.
“Thanks,” I said as I looked into her eyes, “for everything”
She smiled, “Your welcome bestie”
“Oh, this is for you,” I said, handing her the present.
“You never had to do that you know Bree”
“Yeah, I know, but I wanted to.”
When I walked outside the door, my mother was walking in.
“Morning Bree,”
“Morning mum, I just had to come see Kayla as soon as I was up.”
“Yeah its-“
“Ms. and Mrs. Parks, sorry to interrupt but we need you to come down to the office to answer a few questions.”
“Okay” answered mommy as we followed them outside the door.
✨✨✨✨✨
When we got down to the station, we went straight to the interview room.
Honestly my butt was burning from them tough chairs. They kept asking us a bunch a questions. Like Andrew was dead ya’ll no need to interview us again. I nudged mommy from under the table. Thankfully she got the message.
“Uhm, I’m really sorry Mr. Williams, but I’m sure that there’s nothing else that my daughter or I know that can be of help to you. As of such we would like to go.”
“Oh, its ok and yes I understand.” Was his reply.
✨✨✨✨✨
Without talking to each other, we both headed towards Dave’s office. I smiled and looked up at mum. We went into his office and yes he was surprised to see us. Upon leaving he invited us to dinner on Saturday night.
Media personnel and reporters swarmed us as we walked out the station and back to our car. They were talking tons of mics, and pushing microphones on us while asking us questions. I held on to mom’s hand and we made our way down the steps.
Then she stopped and one person began asking a question. Before she got a chance to answer, another reporter asked something else and it would’ve gone on and on if she didn’t respond.
Well, she began, my daughter and I are happy to be alive. The situation was indeed unfortunate but I will not comment on the matter as it is currently under investigation.
