I heard my mom calling from downstairs. We both crawled through the window, Jc and then myself. We stumbled down the stairs. Infront of us at the bottom were tons of boxes. As we started grabbing boxes, looking inside to see where to put things away, movers started crowding in the foyer. Two of them were carrying my matress and two others were carrying my boxspring. I ran infront of them to lead them up to my soon to be room. I thought it was kind of redundant considering that we would be painting my room after our trip to ikea this week.

"This way guys," I shouted, that way they could notice me.

They grumbled. I didn't blame them. It was about 75 degrees outside, a typical california afternoon. I loved it. It was so glorious here already. I opened the door for the movers and stood in the middle of the room guiding them to set the bed up in the corner opposite of the bay-like window. I ran back downstairs and looked through every box trying to find my sheets.

"Mom, where are my sheets?" I shouted across the foyer.

"I don't know Emily, do you really need them right now?" she sassed back.

"No, I guess not," I trailed off.

I looked around. I didn't see Jc anywhere. Where could he have gone.

I walked out the double-sided front door. I ran down the street as fast as I could, looking every which way. I finally saw a person strolling down the sidewalk. I caught up to the person.

"Jc," I said quietly, "what's up?"

He glared at me. "I'm scared to see my dad," he confessed, "I've never really been close to him. Obviously."

"So that's why you left me?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said, "I just didn't know what else to do. I'm sorry. I love you," he smiled at me.

I smiled back. "I love you too, but you just have to talk to me please."

He nodded and leaned in towards me. At first I pulled away, but then I let myself melt into him. He kissed me and I kissed back. My phone went off and I jumped back.

"It's my mom," I said annoyed, "What mom?" I answered.

"Where'd you run off to?" she shouted.

"I went to find Jc. Can you calm down? Jeez," I said in a snotty voice.

"Whatever Emil-." She hung up and cut herself off. What an idiot I thought.

I grabbed Jc's hand and we just walked for a while. I tried my best to remember the way home. We came up to a gas station with only eight pumps, four on both sides, with the tiny inside in the middle.

"I'm gonna run in and go pee, do you want anything?" Jc asked.

"Get me some beef jerky and cherry limeade arizona?" I asked. I gave him a puppy dog look. He was always a sucker for that.

As I was waiting for Jc to come back out, these two kids were skateboarding as I thought harmlessly. Suddenly the door from the gas station slammed open. A tall, fat man stepped out yelling nonsense.

"GET OFF MY PROPERTY WITH THOSE DAMN THINGS," he yelled like a mad man.

The two boys smacked their gums at the man and walked away mumbling. I jogged up to them and introduced myself.

"Hey wait up," I said out of breath.

They stopped and looked back. The taller one stared and smiled at me, but the other one just gave me dirty glares.

"I'm Kian," the taller boy said, smiling.

I couldn't help but smile back. "This is Sam," Kian said, "He's being grumpy right now, but he's cool once he opens up."

"Hi Sam, I'm Emily," I said. He rolled his eyes.

"What are you doing around here by yourself?" Kian asked.

"Oh I was just taking a walk with my friend," I replied pointing back at the gas station for reference, "I just moved here today actually, so we were checking stuff out."

"Nice, but hey we gotta get going, so wanna keep in touch?" he asked, with a big grin on his face.

We exchanged phones and put our name and numbers in eachothers and handed them back. I looked at his contact name: "Kian(:"

"Maybe I'll text ya later," Kian winked as he turned to walk away.
