“You don’t happen to have any brilliant ideas, do you?”
Lana looked at her other self. “You’re me, so you should know.”
“If that isn’t the most confusing thing I’ve ever heard,” said the other Lana, “Then I don’t know what is.”
“You could be helpful,” Lana said, “We are in the middle of a very serious situation and you’re just standing there.”
“Hey,” she defended, “I’ve been stuck here for a year trying to just tell you about the mess you made. I’m done being helpful.”
“So, what, I’m supposed to figure out how to find Voldemort all by myself?”
“Technically, you’d be all by yourself anyway, because I’m you.”
“Don’t get smart with me,” Lana said, “I’m not in the mood.”
“You’re starting to sound like Mom,” the other Lana said, sounding somewhat surprised. “Now that’s new.”
“Is there any way,” Lana asked, “That you could see Voldemort?”
“What?”
“I’m thinking.” Lana sat down, crossed her legs, and propped her head on her hand. The other Lana sat down across from her, mimicking the pose. “You and Voldemort are both from the other world. What I mean is that, out of the two of us, you’re the other-world-me. And this world Voldemort is dead, so the other-world-Voldemort is in this world now. I figure you must have some sort of connection to him… maybe if you used Legilimency—”
“I’ve already tried to contact him,” the other Lana interrupted, waving her off. “Touch his mind in some way, figure out where he is, who he is…nothing. And magic doesn’t work where I am. I can’t do anything to help other than feed you the very little I know.”
“Well, maybe we can at least figure out what he’s planning,” Lana suggested, “Get an idea of what he’s going to do—”
“I can tell you what he’s not going to do,” the other Lana interrupted again, “And that’s let you get away with ruining his success.”
“What? No, if he wanted me, he’d have found me and killed me already. He’s probably going to try and get his revenge on Harry Potter.”
“Wrong.” The other Lana leaned back, propped on her elbows. “The Voldemort from the other world killed Harry Potter when he was a baby.”
“But he must’ve heard by now what Potter did to him,” Lana said, “That he killed him. So then he must—”
