Chapter 14~

Running a frustrated hand through my hair I change the song I was listening to.

I pick up my pencil and write down another answer to my review. There's a big test coming up in biology and I have to study. My stomach grumbles loudly and I walk downstairs, planning to grab a quick snack and go back to studying. I grab a small granola bar and a water bottle and jog back up the stairs. The test is on Friday and I'm already freaking out- and it's only Wednesday. Lets just say, biology isn't my best subject.

Focusing my attention on the stacks of books and papers in front of me, I hear my phone vibrating from somewhere under the massive pile. With a sigh I hunt through it all, and when I find my phone all I see is an unknown number. With an internal shrug I decide to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Abigail, glad you answered. I got a new phone so I wasn't sure if you would answer to an unknown number."

I bite my lip nervously, unsure of what to say to the supposed "father figure" in my life. We were so close three years ago, and then he just dropped me like I was trash.

"Abigail?" He asks, after my line is silent for awhile.

"Hey.." I say quietly, unsure of this. It's weird, he's never called me. I've barely talked to him at all since I entered middle school, and probably none since I entered high school. Why he's calling me is a complete mystery.

"How have you been?" He asks, sounding genuine.

"I've been um-" I pause for a moment, "I've been good."

"I'm glad to hear that. I'm sorry I haven't been around. There's just some stuff going on lately. How's school going? Anything new?" He asks next.

"School's going good actually. I have all A's so far." I tell him.

"That's my girl." He says, a hint of proudness in his voice. A small smile twitches at the end of my lips, I've missed this.

"I hope there's not any boys taking all your attention away from school though." He says, his tone a little more serious.

I bite my lip and fiddle with my pencil nervously.

"Abigail?"

"Welllll-" I drag out, unsure of how he'll react to me dating.

"Is there something you haven't told me?" He asks. His words getting a little more harsh. I get a bad feeling in my stomach as I take a deep breath.

"Well, there is this one guy, and we've been-"

"How long have you been dating?"

"Well he only officially asked me out last Saturday." I say sheepishly.

"Good, so when you break the news to him he'll take it lightly."

I'm silent for a second before responding, "What?"

"Well you can't stay with him." He says, as if it was obvious.

"Why not?" I ask next, starting to get mad.

"Because, Abigail, you need to focus on your grades now." He says, somewhat snobbishly. I stare at the piles of books and homework around me and hesitate. Maybe he's right? Luke's father did say I would have to have good grades to get into my dream college.

"You're wrong." I start strongly, "I can be in a relationship and focus on my grades at the same time." I say, my temper rising steadily.

"Abigail, you need to trust me on this." He says.
