I was so excited. I’d waited forever for the concert and it hadn’t disappointed. Then again the Avenged guys tried to never disappoint their fans. Even better right now was that instead of riding out the post concert high on my way back home I was waiting with the other lucky girls who had gotten backstage passes.
Security lined us up and we started to file in passed the table where the guys were signing things. I was waiting patiently in line when a girl darted out from behind me and right towards the table. At first her intentions weren’t clear and neither was her exact destination, but then she was lunging over the table at Johnny with the light glinting off something in her hand.
“You bastard! You screwed my sister and left her! You are nothing but a worthless asshole!”
The knife slashed quickly across the skin of his left arm. I inhaled quickly holding my breath only to expel it in relief. There didn’t appear to be any blood maybe she had missed. I could hear a few other sighs of relief along the line as well as security pulled the girl away from Johnny.
“Shit…” Brian said and I looked back at Johnny to see the blood dripping from his arm. I fumbled in my pocket looking for my emergency ID card and felt my fingers lock on the plastic laminated card. I stepped out of line and found myself being swarmed by security. I held my hands up and showed them my emergency ID card.
“I’m a registered nurse. I can help him a lot quicker than you calling the medics back here.”
One of the security guards examined the ID card and then nodded at Matt. Matt nodded back and I found myself being escorted over to Johnny who had moved so that he was now sitting on the edge of the table. One of the other security guards handed me a first aid kit he had procured from somewhere in the room. I quickly slipped a pair of latex gloves on and found some gauze.
“This may sting for a moment,” I said softly as I pressed the gauze to the cut. He sucked in a breath and I found myself looking up into his brown eyes.
“A little sting,” he said with a half smile.
“Sorry,” I said as I lightened the pressure on the gauze. I removed it and checked to see if the bleeding had stopped, it had so I disposed of the gauze and searched for an antiseptic wipe.
“Is it bad?” He asked me his breath skimming down past my ear and across my neck causing me to shiver. I tried to repress it but I think he noticed.
“That bad?”
I cleared my throat. “No, actually you’re lucky. Either she didn’t know how to use the knife or she didn’t have a lot of upper body strength. It’s not deep. You won’t even need stitches, just a bandage for a couple days.”
I located the wipe and cleaned the cut before I applied a salve and then the bandage.
“There you go all done.”
“Thanks, would you mind hanging around for a little while when everyone is gone?”
“Um sure, I can do that,” I said nervously.
He nodded and said something to the security guard who was standing next to him now while I was escorted back to my place in the line.
“Is it bad?” A girl behind me whispered.
I shook my head no. “Superficial.”
“Thank god!” She said relieved and I nodded.
The line moved along slowly as the other girls talked to the guys, had them sign things and took pictures. When my turn came I got a thank you from all the guys in addition to a hug from each of them except Johnny. He smiled though and I found myself being escorted around the table to a folding chair that had appeared beside Johnny.
I looked up after seating myself to find Johnny’s eyes focused on me.
“I wanted to make sure you didn’t change your mind and disappear on me.”
“Why would I do that?”
He shrugged. “Angels tend to only be around when you need them.”
I laughed. “I’m no angel.”
“You are to me.”
I laughed nervously and motioned to the girl who had stopped in front of Johnny shyly. He turned his attention back to her with a smile. I watched as the guys chatted with the rest of the girls to come through the line until Johnny had said goodbye to the last of the girls.
“So…” Matt said flashing me a smile. "What’s your name?”
