CHAPTER 11
Skyler sat on the far corner of her bed room with the lights off and her curtain drapes opened revealing the night sky and its beautiful full moon. She sat right under the light of the moon holding on to her moon amulet tightly taking deep breaths as she tried to erase the memory of the funeral she saw earlier that day. Her father had passed away two days before the funeral and Skyler had felt the world stop when she heard the news from her mother.
How, she thought. How could such a strong man like her father be gone? He was strong, he could handle any harsh weather, what made this trip any different. She looked back into her memories and recalled the conversation she had last had with her father face to face.
He stood tall and firm as she watched him and her mother talk in front of the door with two bag beside him. Her mother smiled sweetly and beautifully at him. Skyler wished she had that type of smile that could make anyone feel superior and loved.
Her father looked kindly and lovingly at her mother as if they were still in the honeymoon state of the marriage. He pushed his shaggy light brown hair back revealing his bright large green eyes. He smiled as he then got a glimpse of Skyler who stood behind the wall of the hallway that lead to the front door. He smiled as he then bent down just a bit and spoke softly,
“Come here Sky.”
She looked from her mother who gave her a smile, to her father and walked toward him with a sheepish expression. He looked at her with much love and care and placed his hands on her shoulders.
“Be a good girl for me while I”m gone okay.”
“Do you have to go. Why can't you stay?” said Skyler not even trying to hide her disappointment.
“You know I can't. This is my job. How about I bring you something back from the Himalayas. You always like the cool stuff I bring back.”
Skyler shook her head as if her gut was telling her to make him stay.
“No, just stay.” said Skyler with a pout as Skyler's mother then placed her hand over her head and said,
“Skyler, please don't be rude.”
“NO! STAY! Why do you always have to go! Make someone else go!”
Skyler was now in tears as her father then wrapped his large arms around her as she whipped her tears away. He then whispered something softly across her ears that made her nostalgic even now as she repeated them to herself.
“Revertar ad vos.”
“You promise.” she said as he then looked down to her and smiled.
“Promise.”
Skyler just looked at her father with concern and worry as he then stood and kissed her mother gently on the cheek and her on her head. He placed his coat over him and scarf as he looked once more at Skyler.
