Opening my eyes from a very brief but painful memory, I finally realized the whole class was staring, watching, laughing. At me. For a moment I didn't care. A tear ran down my left cheek, glittering. I stood up slowly, taking my time, and opened my mouth, then closed it, multiple times, like a fish out of water. They laughed harder, so I ran. I felt my face grow red with humiliation as I fall flat on the ground, tripped by my best friend. Lucille. Then everyone stopped laughing, and everything went black.
I imagined running down the fourth grade hall, which seemed to go on forever. Finally it stopped, or so I thought. The path was blocked by fifth, sixth, seventh graders. Third graders lined the lockers against the wall, as if they were hiding something.
